He's a quality player... How some fans dislike him, i'll never know... Academy player, loves the club, is stacking the goals/assists and is not close to his peak yet. Almost all wide players are frustrating at times.... But he can make something happen on his worst day and blow teams away on his best day... Also one of our few players that gets the fans off their seat when he gets the ball close the the box.

As my membership page shows he's my favourite player.
Provides some excitement in a generally dull team, has some real class on the pitch and plenty off too

Yep, been critical of him for the same reason, cos you know the boys talented, and don’t want him to fall short.
As the season gone along, I realised at the very least he’s trying to make things happen where Martial has been a total letdown, and so where we give Bruno free licence, I’ve done the same for Rashford.
Hopefully he can stay match fit cos we know he isn’t running at 100%.

He’s become a really decisive player for us the last two seasons (even before that the contributions he did make in games were often important ones, rather than Lukaku like).

This is despite having injury problems the last two seasons. And the team having issues in the team that don’t help him.

People get very excited about Greenwood, but Rashford really is the the jewel in the crown of the academy.

I find it remarkable how you can be a critic of Rashford yet rate Lindelof.

It is like you view football from a different spectrum to most other people.

Without him and Bruno we'd be f-cked.

All this as well as doing a fine job as Prime Minister

Rashy is good, but comes with a lot of faults in his game.

If he could just stop running down blind alleys, making wrong decisions and also massively improve his heading game, he'd be the best in the league.

With all that and still to have the stats that he does, says something doesn't it....

I've always said, I reckon by the time he hits 25/26, he'll be unplayable.
(Here's hoping)

True. But then that applies to quite a few other teams who are carried by a good striker or two.

These were the two things that sprung to my mind. He's spent a lot of this season obviously to some degree hampered by injury, and last season had a horrendous one (though the lockdown was well timed from that point of view). In view of this, we'd do well to remember the levels he hits when he looks physically fit before questioning his quality.

But the overall dysfunction of our attack also makes it harder for him to shine. It's no coincidence that Rashford was more devastating last season when Martial was also looking dangerous and Greenwood hit his purple patch on the right. As it is, everyone who plays us knows that our most dangerous attacking play comes down the right, and sets up accordingly. If we were a more multi-dimensional attack, if we had a number 9 dragging defenders all over the place in every game, Rashford would have more goals and more admirers.

I’m a critic of Lindelof too when it’s warranted I just don’t by into the argument that he’s useless.

This is the thing, he clearly has faults to his game but the lad is only 23. He seems to be far more scrutinised than other players his age or younger. IMO he improves every year and will hopefully continue to do so for the next 5 years or so.

I'm missing Messi Lingard

RR, yep I agree with that. Also he’d have a lot more goals if he was on penalty duty. Bruno’s obviously a better penalty taker, but he’s now 20 out of 21 penalties since coming to the club. It’s obviously something to consider the last two seasons with regard to the goal tallies of Martial and Rashford. Auba, Kane, Vardy and Salah all take pens. And they’ve been the consistent golden boot contenders.

Also on Rashford’s form, I don’t think Martial’s drop in form has helped him at all. They dovetail so well together, and both look better players when they are both fit and in form. Even if not in form, I think we look a better team with Martial starting up front than Cavani or Greenwood.

Indeed. For all the frustrations he causes by his sometimes nonchalance to giving the ball away you can’t knock his improving goal returns.

The penalties factor should always be an asterisk next to discussions comparing leading goal scorers. E.g. Andy Cole didn't take penalties and took pride in the fact that his goal tally was a true reflection of his achievements as a striker, stats not artificially bloated by 'free' spot kicks.

I think it was less of an issue when judging players before, as it’s still an important ability for an attacker to have, but the sheer amount of penalties awarded nowadays make the goal tallies inflated for sure.

It’s become a bit of a farce really. People talk about the ‘spirit of the offside rule’ and how VAR is ruining it - that’s not something I actually agree with when you look at how the offside rule developed - but the spirit of the penalty is something that has certainly become an abomination.

It was originally intended as a punishment for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. That makes sense, you give the attacking side the opportunity to take that opportunity.

Now you can get a tap on the leg, when in no position to trouble the opposition, and you get given almost a free goal.

Yes. I'm old enough to remember indirect free kicks being awarded inside the penalty area. Or old enough that my brain has rotted and I've started making things up. [Withdraws in self-doubt]

I am guilty of calling him Trashford and other expletives especially on match thread. Yes he is quite often frustrating and has the decision making of a Nani.
But he is our most important striker and we could be mid table if not for him.

posted on 9/4/21

Indirect free kicks for the ‘fouls’ you see now would make a lot more sense. And overall just being tougher on what is a foul. Would likely see less diving if the laws weren’t making it easy for the players to justify doing it.

posted on 9/4/21

I look at penalties this way. If it is a foul anywhere else on the pitch then if it is in the penalty area then it is a penalty.

Meanwhile, another gifted penalty for Penited, scored by Penandes, after Penandes walked into an outstretched arm and threw himself to the floor.

Unsurprisingly, the referee was looking straight at the incident, as if he was expecting a last minute dive from a Penited player, nobody will be surprised that he gave Penited a penalty for a nothing challenge, whereby a Penited player initiates contact on an outstretched arm.

Hopefully Penited have used up their weekly penalty in the Europa and are not gifted another against Spurs.

Dear Lord, what a sad little life, Billy. You ruined our night, completely, so you could have your fun. I hope now you spend some time getting some lessons in grace and decorum because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on.

do we think that billy has a special keyboard shortcut for penited, penandes, livarpool etc, or does he have to type from scratch each time?

it may affect my admiration of him if it turns out that he is lazy.
