There are isolated incidents of racism in UK, North America which are definitely condemnable. Whereas a country like China/Japan are deeply rooted in racism, skin color etc. Read it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You do not know much about the UK or US, do you?

Let us not forget India too.

The U.K. was built on rainbows and marshmallows and definitely not imperialism and slave Labour
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We exported these rainbows and marshmallows all over the world and depopulated continents, committing continental style genocide in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia.

When you say this, some people get upset.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is true and people shouldn't be getting upset to hear this. The world was a different place back then as I'm sure you can agree. It certainly wasn't Britain that invented the use of slave labour. We were one of the first to put an end to it though. That seems like a more positive outlook to go by if you're looking to learn anything about Britain's values as of today.

Are you still not understanding that racism is good for all forms of media? You would have had journalists sitting there last night hoping someone would racially abuse Son so they could get a story. Tomorrow night if Sterling has a bad game, they'll be sitting in anticipation of the abuse, HOPING IT HAPPENS, so they can get a highly clickable story.

Do you understand? Bad stuff makes better news, so media companies need more bad stuff to happen. So they encourage it. Simples.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see your point and almost agree
but there is a difference between reporting something and encouraging it. Should the media not report rape/murders because some sados might be inspired to replicate the crimes?
Yes the media probably benefits from bad news but acknowleging something is one of the first step to fixing it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They don't want to fix it. It's their livelihood. And by encouraging it I mean bigger picture through social media algorithms etc. They need people to be divided and they need conflict. They do this through algorithms to reinforce your view and anger you. Anger leads to hate and so on. They tell you they're doing this as well and nothing is done about it. We just get outraged at the product (person) doing a racism on social media when a player does bad. Take it down from the top, but you can't because everything is ruled by money. Money>people. Get angry at the cause, not just the product of it.

I completely agree with you then if you are talking about social media. I thought you were talking about the mass media in the UK who actually report rather than encourage bigotry (there are the obvious exceptions which we all know)

Think its a moot point to argue really. Easy to say the British Empire was all bad, easy to say it was all good. Reality is, as usual, far more nuanced, and it is split into two piles of both good and bad. Which you think weighs out will always be subjective, but important to acknowledge both. Its a subjectivity that should probably be taught in schools, but unfortunately isn't.

Seems to be quite off track from providing solidarity with a player who was racially abused. to me. The core of this thread is very relevant. Not sure how anyone could disagree with it, not that I am saying you are, at all.

Impartial or balanced viewpoints don't get noticed. It has to be extreme either way or it's irrelevant. Again, thanks to social media.

I’m a Gooner and I like Son, he’s a tremendous player and generally comes over as a nice bloke.
I would say, however, that the way he reacted yesterday was embarrassing (it’s not just him, most of them do it and they do it because the officials are weak and foolish) and if a man who gets paid a multi-millionaire salary gets a few nasty comments from racist morons then I can’t get excited about it. The vast vast VAST majority do not condone this behaviour and if Son really is upset about it then he needs to toughen up.

I agree. They need to bring in salary brackets like they do with income tax. Over £50k per year then people are allowed to call you a n****r, over £100k per year then people are allowed to spit in your face and punch you for the colour of your skin. Earn over a million a year and people are allowed to kill you for having a certain skin colour. Although I don't think police get paid over a million a year in America, so maybe that bracket is a bit high.

Ignore the last part as it's not the police getting paid a million I was meaning. The minority person that they are killing gets paid over a million in this hypothetical scenario/real life every day event in America.

See previous comment about people condoning racism because he went down softly, as if 'cheating' in football is even a remotely comparable issue.

Although it really didn't help matters when Solskjaer comes out with totally unhelpful comments about "starving" Son.
Frankly a PL manager should know better, and should be sanctioned and fined by the FA.
Stuff like that, especially from the manager of a team that cheats to get advantages all the time, just inflames the situation even more.

you are clearly a very clever person but your comments are completely miss guided. Like the guy above said, how much he earns should never be a factor in the conversation against hate.
the notion that he earns so much so should have a tougher skin, maybe he does but the damning effect of racism is not just felt by the direct recipient but others that look like him. That effect is even more powerful in my opinion when it happens to someone of great status like Son

In a way it's irrelevant whether Son is upset. The point is that racist abuse generalises all the millions of individual people of one race into a single homogeneous entity, which means not recognising them as individual human beings. Reducing Son to 'stereotypical Asian' is therefore a slur against everyone with Asian features, and it tends to be the more marginalised members of a stereotyped community, not millionaire sports stars, who bear the brunt of these types of pejorative generalisation.

As an extreme example, you may recall that a few weeks ago a gunman in the States went on a shooting spree in a series of Asian-run nail bars.

He appears to leaping on the opportunity afforded by the racist abuse of Son to either make a joke or a bad faith dig at Solksjaer's expense. Either way, we can only applaud his ever classy posting.

I am not the original poster, but I have seen some people trying to imply that Ole deliberately used the word "starving" because Son is South Korean and North Koreans are widely know to be quite impoverished.

This is absolute nonesense and just another divisive tactic.

I have noticed people that are racists and cowards tend to use this tactic of implying a racists conclusion to someone else's words and then throwing the bait comment for others to consume without even knowing. This is one of the tactic Trumps used, he would imply someone else said something racists. Distancing him self from the racists comment but putting the racists rhetheoric out for some of his fanbase who loved hearing these things
