Bruno gives the ball away a lot more than Fred.

We need him because Bruno is out of form, and is losing the ball à lot, and somebody has to tidy up
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Him giving the ball away, a lot, was apparently a major reason why lots of other clubs didnt move to sign him. Coutinho had about a 75% pass rate though cos he took risks so there needs to be perspective on risk rather than a spreadsheet.

Got to say though that I thought he was very poor against Spurs and has been in most big games I've seen him. At the same time I think he gets special attention from oppo managers.

I think Utd are more of a team now too and go through him less but I still can't work him out really. An unlikable JWP is where I'm at atm.

Fred leaves his sweat stained shirt on the pitch every game good or bad, if Martial had 10% of Fred’s application and the occasional Fred smile he could be the player he is capable of

The nutmeg pass to Greenwood for his cross to Cavani was worth the admission money alone

Bit harsh. He's better than that.

......

I am not that sure he was passing to Greenwood. It looked like he was knocking it into space for himself and Greenwood spotted Cavani’s run and crossed it instead of leaving it to Bruno.

I could be wrong of course but that is what I thought at the time and in every replay I have seen since.

Dazza & Rosso, I came back after a few hours and read your conversation. I'm afraid I get too absorbed in games to analyse what's happening to such a deep tactical level so I found it really enlightening.

BTW any material you would recommend reading on different approaches to pressing? I feel like I need to read up on tactics before I can contribute intelligently to this discussion!

I said something similar on another thread:

“Hate to say it, but did Bruno mean that? It looked like he received the ball a bit sooner than he expected, turned to see the Spurs player on top of him and could only prod it through his legs. Not sure he meant it as a pass to Greenwood. Great play if he did and very subtle; the replay I've been watching is quite far from the action so it's hard to say.”

What the numpties don't get is the simplicity involved in being a proper footballer.

I'm not going into all the posting history for evidence, but I'll go out on a limb and suggest there is a probably a correlation between those that denigrate Fred and those that eulogised the clueless Herrera.

The difference is intelligence - of the footballing kind. Fred has it, Herrera merely did a lot of running around looking for it - at least I hope that was his excuse for all that headless chicken impersonating.

The current squad is not the strongest but, that aside, Fred should be one of the first 6 names on the team sheet.

Football, like life, is that simple.

I like both of them, so now I don’t know where I am or what my name is.

Does anyone recall IAmMe ever posting a comment that didn't consist of unsupported assertion + 'you're all morons'?

No. And I think this might be the first time he’s mentioned Herrera without the word “directionless” cropping up. Genuinely thought it was some kind of autocomplete. Poor Ander has been demoted to “clueless” though.

Nope. I can't even think of a single instance in which he's engaged with another poster one on one.

Personally I choose to imagine that IAmMe is actually one of Barry's accounts, which would be genius.

If it's a parody account, he has really invested himself in it, with the typically self-important profile page and the external links to his somewhat lurid content. I'd have thought being Barry is a full-time job as it is, so I struggle to see IAmMe as a side project.

Did you click through to his websites Robbing?

There's the kitschy digital artwork accompanied by intro text that's very much in the authorial voice of IAmMe. And then there's the link to his music - colourfully entitled 'space monkey apocalypse' or something - and I was genuinely disappointed that the site seems to have lapsed.

I had actually listened to his music some time ago, and have just re-acquainted myself with his artwork. There was some personal info on there that, I have to admit, was easy enough to verify that he's real (I was curious!) as far as I can tell.

He's an extraordinarily odd chap.

It always makes me laugh when I think about one of the portraits on there and someone said IAmMe is Charlie Dimmock.

Isnt one of the bits of art a picture of Venom knocked together on what looks like Microsoft paint?

You could have given me 1,000,000 guesses as to what it would be and I wouldn't have got an anti hero from Spiderman.
