If Cavani leaves it has to be CF.

posted on 13/4/21

It would add width, add to our attacking options, create more excitement, crosses from the byline are more dangerous than further back. It would help AWB to have a permanent partner, it can sometimes pull another player out of position if their fullback keeps getting beaten, it gives another passing option to our midfield.
I suppose it would have the same impact on Amad as a new cf would have on Greenwood. And we know Greenwood has great potential and is already good. Amad we only hope has the same at the moment.

I fail to see how a new CF would impede Greenwood’s development. He could still rotate with Amad and the new CF.

posted on 13/4/21

Because Greenwood is essentially a striker not a winger.
We don't yet know how good or not Amad would be in the first team. If we get a top cf I doubt he will want to be rotated.

However if what you say is correct, the same will apply to Amad that you raised in a question in the OP.

Should it be a left footed RW, or a right footed LW we play on the right?

posted on 13/4/21

The only way a striker should be a priority is if there is a chance of getting a Haaland or Kane etc.

There isn’t that many really top strikers out and I do suspect all are ageing and/or unattainable.

Are there really more wingers than CF’s out there?

Even Ole has questioned if Greenwood will end up a CF , and given how well he has done from the Right, I wouldn’t move him.

Yes I’d argue there are certainly more too wide players or inside forwards than centre forwards right now.

there's also the question of what's actually available to us. is mbappe really available to utd this summer? ditto kane/haaland. but sancho was pretty much gift-wrapped for us last summer, and i assume that the same is true this year, and at a lower price too.

so there may, or may not, be an interesting debate to be had between whether haaland or sancho would improve us more, but in reality the question is whether sancho or andre silva would benefit the team more next season. even DCL would set us back a sancho-type fee, and his season has fizzled out faster than a spurs title challenge.

OK. Can you list some of them that you’d like us to go for?

Sancho and Rafinha are two that could be gettable.

The point I was making is there seems to be more top wide forwards than centre forwards across Europe.

Can anyone even afford the likes of Haaland/Kane/Mboopi this summer? Maybe I'm underestimating club's financial power here.

I agree. Hard to see any of those moving this summer unless it’s for a cut price.

Not for us anyway. City could sheikh their money maker for Haaland, but that's never really been their style. I suppose if they want to blow everyone out of the water they might break with tradition for him.

I firmly believe if a top, top player that we need becomes available, United could do it.

It seems we offered very well tbf. Dortmund were greedy, within their rights to be, but greedy nonetheless

We won’t be paying £100m+ for someone this summer, I highly doubt it. So I would bring in a RW this summer but only if top quality was available and for me that’s Sancho or Raphina.

Give us proper width, complete the team and create space for others.

You know, I remember having a very similar chat with a fellow called RDD last summer but he seems to have vanished.

Anyway, a few things have happened since then that have made me really want a CF:

1) The glimpses of Cavani and what he can do
2) Martial’s loss of form
3) The signing of Amad (and Pellistri)

I don’t know how much Amad will feature next season but could he and Mason share the RW, with James as well? The counter is that Mason isn’t a natural wide-man and our whole attack is compromised by that area. But we don’t have a CF I’d now want to rely on either, as much as I like Martial (I doubt Cavani will stay).

So, if we can only get one, I feel a bit more inclined towards a CF than I did last summer.

Bruno just behind

Greenwood CF Rashford

excites me more than

RW Martial Rashford

But who we gonna sign as a CF Clock? The big names won’t happen for several reasons and I don’t want a potential or a 7/10. We don’t need squad level we need proper title winning XI players at this stage, our squad is good enough already.

I’d want to see

Sancho or Raphina Greenwood/Martial Rashy/Martial

I think players playing in their natural position is better than having an upgraded CF but then having one of our three playing in a compromised position.

After a season of that, then the ideal is then to get a CF too 😂😂😂. Not sure who though because a Haaland or Mbappe won’t happen I don’t think. Maybe Kane next year perhaps but he’d be 29 and I doubt Levy would take a haircut on the fee.
