My ultimate hero from this event is Charles Joughin, the Chief Baker.
"Joughin climbed to the starboard side of the deck, getting hold of the safety rail so that he was on the outside of the ship as it went down by the head. As the ship finally sank, Joughin rode it down as if it were an elevator, not getting his head under the water in his words, his head "may have been wetted, but no more". He was, thus, the last survivor to leave the RMS Titanic"

RMS Carpathia arrived about an hour and a half after the sinking and rescued all of the survivors by 09:15 on 15 April, some nine and a half hours after the collision.
Is Jenny the cat still waiting quayside for the stoker in the engine room to come back !
