Thought vidic was better than rip.

I’d say vidic, Rooney (unbelievable player underrated by so many), Keane were world class off the top of my head. Obviously I doubt Fergie would say Keane due to their history.

Who would you say were world class from Chelsea?
I’d say Terry, Petr and a lot of people close
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And Cole

No need to struggle. Lampard is in the top 3 best midfielders in Prem history to most. Definitely world class

I know I know, there’s just something missing for me, don’t really know what but it’s always been the case. His scoring record is phenomenal as is his collection of winners medals but something just stops me putting him at that level.

Top three:
Keane
Rooney
Ronaldo

The 4th can be picked from between Rio, RvN and Schmeichel.

The 7th-11th from Scholes, Giggs, vdS, Beckham and Cantona

Tendency to use world class too easily.

People in this thread are saying united had 7-8 world class players in the late 90s, and yet they generally failed in Europe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah football can be that way. The better team doesn't always win, the better players don't always play well and particularly in a knockout competition, it isn't as black and white as 'the team with the most world class players wins'. You could pick through many a champions league campaign and argue that X team who didn't win was better than the team that did.

Arsenal haven't won the champions league, does that mean they've never had any world class players? I'd disagree. Henry didn't lead them to a champions league, does that mean he wasn't one of the best players the Premier league has seen? Is Harry Kane less of a talent because he hasn't won a trophy? It will affect how they are remembered but that's different to how talented they actually were.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I say a team that supposedly have 7-8 world class players in the starting 11 should have done better in europe, and you bring up Harry Kane not winning trophies at spurs?

Disagree with Ferguson about only having those four. I’m one of the few who doesn’t really mind the term “world-class” being used a lot - who said that the term had to be reserved for an elite few? You could argue that anyone who’s good enough to shine at a World Cup is world-class by definition, and that includes loads of players. The problem might be not that “world-class” is overused, but that we don’t have enough ways of describing people who are even better than that, the real crème de la crème, so when we say Bruno Fernandes is “world-class”, it sounds like we’re putting him alongside Messi.

Fergie was world class to put it mildly, his United teams were almost always more than the sum of their parts. Not necessarily packed with the best individuals but as a team it all came together

Wouldn't say Kante. World class needs to be prolonged spell at the top. Like at least ten years

Masabumi Hosono survived the Titanic, but not the public's scorn.

So this would mean Kane, KDB, Salah aren't world class yet?

Surely it would mean that you could be the best player in the world... but not world-class

Agree totally with this. People give themselves so many silly parameters and limits with the term, why can't it be that being world class is a fairly common thing? At the same time though you shouldn't be seen as world class for a few flash in the pan performances over part of a season, it has to be sustained over a couple of seasons and ideally over multiple competitions (domestic, European, international).
