Looks like the no relegation thing is taken from the American sports model of a closed league. It definitely creates a higher quality of game. Maybe PL/FA should’ve thought a long while back to limit the ownership model to German one to prevent this.

I will. Can't wait to swap Wolves, Burnley and Fulham for Barca, Juve and Real.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You will literally be the Fulham of the league though. Don’t understand how any fan could welcome this idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet Fulham still have fans. By your logic any team that isn't in the top half should find a new club. How can they welcome the idea of supporting a team that won't do well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How can they welcome the idea of being the whipping boys of a competition, by choice? At least Fulham know that if they get relegated they can have a run at promotion. When Arsenal finish rock bottom in this super league nothing happens. Same money for failure as for success. Renders the competition meaningless. This is basically “medals for everyone” with professional football. Makes a mockery of the sport
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Except that Arsenal could finish rock bottom and then the next season have a go at gaining the title. Liverpool went 30 years without winning the league (but never kn danger of relegation) and that didn't mean fans stopped supporting them in that time.
Do you propose getting rid of the fa Cup because there is no risk to going out in the early rounds beyond not winning it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, because clubs down to grass roots level get a crack at the FA Cup, whereas this super league is elitist bullsh*t that does nothing for fans and harms our domestic competitions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But that wasn't the point you were making. Your original comment was that there is no point supporting a team who are likely to do badly, if there are no repercussions for dong badly. This is exactly the situation that most clubs have for the FA Cup - if you lose you just try again next year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, my original point was that Arsenal would be the Fulham of this league. My second comment was a broad statement that I don’t understand why any fan would welcome this ESL and was consistent with my earlier comments on the topic, that are reflected in the comment you are also now responding to.
Fifteen of Europe's biggest clubs are in talks to launch a European Super League, planned to start in time for the 2023-24 season, with a $6 billion (£4.3 billion) fund backing the project, sources have told ESPN.

It doesn’t work like that, all teams will have same revenue source and with no buying of players rather swapping and drafting top players according to league position, it will be competitive just like NBA.

Real Madrid
Barca
Atletico Madrid
Dortmund
Bayern
PSG
Ajax
Juve
Inter
One of ac Milan and Napoli ?
What about Porto ?
The idea of playing Barca and co week in week out holds far less appeal to me that playing the Leeds, Villa and Leicester’s of the world. The nostalgia that I have for ties against English clubs will never be replicated in a European super league. Absolute garbage. The more I read the more confident I can be that I’d be done with United if this goes through. Let those ginger American t*ssers do what they want with the club. No doubt It’ll be Tampa Bay United within 10 years anyway.
Won’t renew my season ticket.
No relegation goes against the ethos of competitive football. City would be turning their back in over a century of history.

Best players in the world will declare to join or want to play in the new Super League and they will be in a pool every season where they will get drafted and the teams that finished poorly will either draft the best players to make the league competitive or, they can swap the new Mbape for maybe a Bruno plus Rashford and Maguire for Mbape.

Bayern have said no. But they dominate Germany without any serious competition. If they had a sugar daddy oil club in Berlin I think they'd be more on board.
when i became interested in football i never even thought about starting to watch a league other than the pl.
england was something i could relate to having my grandparents come from wales and england.
all the history would be shot in the garbage and in fifty years or so aston villa or someone would surpass man utd's 20 titles.
If it did happen, yes I would still support United.
But I would cease been a 'stakeholder' in the club. By that I mean that I would not support them financially anymore which includes, buying 2 x season tickets each season and the add on expenses of match days (programmes, beers and Bovril), buying official merchandise (which is something I do rarely anyway) and subscribing to Sky and BT Sports TV.
And by doing so I'm sure I will eventually lose interest in just following the results in the media and catching highlights shown of free to view TV, if any will be available.

No, my original point was that Arsenal would be the Fulham of this league. My second comment was a broad statement that I don’t understand why any fan would welcome this ESL and was consistent with my earlier comments on the topic, that are reflected in the comment you are also now responding to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In that case I misunderstood your initial comment. I read the second sentence as referring to the first sentence because they were in the same paragraph.

It doesn’t work like that, all teams will have same revenue source and with no buying of players rather swapping and drafting top players according to league position, it will be competitive just like NBA.

No relegation goes against the ethos of competitive football. City would be turning their back in over a century of history.

Looks like the no relegation thing is taken from the American sports model of a closed league. It definitely creates a higher quality of game. Maybe PL/FA should’ve thought a long while back to limit the ownership model to German one to prevent this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
having no relegation definitely doesn't create a higher
quality of game. you just have to look at all the borefests in the pl when two top teams play.
if my team abandoned the best league in the world i'd stop watching.

So what did you do between 2004 and 2020?

i watched the second best league in the world with a chance to move up.

all this rubbish that it ruins the chances of someone outside the big 6 getting into Europes premier competition need to remember we have had only one non big 6 club qualify for the group stages in the last near 19 years.

If they had a sugar daddy oil club in Berlin I think they'd be more on board.

england was something i could relate to having my grandparents come from wales and england.
all the history would be shot in the garbage and in fifty years or so aston villa or someone would surpass man utd's 20 titles.
