It is pretty dumb that for example Arsenal who are having a terrible season just get a place in this ‘elite’ competition regardless
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And the financial benefits for Arsenal being in the competition are massive. And they just get in every season just because. A club actually performing well domestically misses out just because. It’s just to blatant a play at manipulating the very essence of the game just to make elite clubs guaranteed to make a lot of money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go look at how many different teams have won the champions league in the last 15 years. The elite clubs already dominate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well obviously the best teams will dominate competitions in literally any sport ever, that isn’t something shocking. But the CL isn’t invitation only, nor is it possible to win it if you haven’t performed well to get into the competition in the first place.

18 to 20 games to reach a quarter final instead of 8 to 10. How are they going to fit that in?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Starts in August

It's brutal fixture congestion, players need to be playing less games not more

It's brutal fixture congestion jonedtly

The Americans want this, the Americans do it in their sports.

It really does show you how much Levy gives a fack about this club winning trophies over money. We wouldn't win any in this Super League.

The clubs will withdraw from the Fa and league cups I imagine.

2 competitions that UEFA killed off when they changed the format of the CL funnily enough.

I’m not so sure if it’s all that bad or good at the moment. However this has been in talks for at least ten years now, and the football authorises have seen this coming. What have they done to prepare for it? I don’t think PL/UEFA/FIFA and every other football authority/organisation involved can complain too much because they helped create this mess.

Don’t forget PL broke away from the football league to create the PL brand. PL/FA also let foreign investors come in and buy out clubs, ruining many in the process all in the name of making the PL brand bigger. So when these owners who have no knowledge or care of the culture of the game want something more secure, who really is to blame for allowing this?

Bayern are rumoured to be one of the 3 other clubs to fill the final slots, but with the ownership model in Germany, it’s unlikely.

UEFA need to stop with expanding their competitions and get real. Just because they’re not getting a slice of the pie, they’re making an issue out of it.

My main concern is, does that mean we'll keep Jose now that top 4 doesn't matter?

The governors of the league are the club chairman.. first being Madrid’s so when they aren’t getting enough share of this leagues money pot he will be changing the rules.

Absolute joke of a statement, the cheek to say they are doing to benefit he whole of the European football community... They think they’re going to smooth this over by offering bribes to the 1000s of other teams -not happening.

If there is two leagues of 10 how is that working each season?

Do you stay in the same league playing the same founding teams or is there a draw each year to see who plays who?

Would Arsenal always be in the other league, will the Manchester clubs always be split etc?

Midweek competition and the club is gonna be loaded with cash, laughing, that’s some nice new signings and Kane staying.

On the other hand the market for clubs that can sign Harry has just widened as every founding club gets £350m.

Just no Premier League. Champions League, Europa, FA cup or league cup games.

This seems like the inevitable evolution of the current CL. Personally I don’t care either way but I do think the formation of the super league will be overall positive for football .

The proposed format is utterly ridiculous though, guaranteed participation goes against everything the game stands for.

If they change the big six to top six in the league, there won’t be many issues with it. Teams from Russia. Turkeys, Scotland etc adds nothing to the current competition. If they cull them and let the best teams in the continent regularly play against each other, it’ll be a much better European competition imo

Unfortunately that is the antithesis of the reasoning behind this. These six want to guerentee their income, it's really as simple as that.

I think they will drop it in the negotiations. This seems like the first offer in a long negotiation saga.

If a team cannot finish top six, they are simply not European super league material. People who are organizing this knows it

They know, but don't care.

posted on 19/4/21

Or they are smart negotiators. They generally tend to put ridiculous clauses in first offer, to drop them as the negotiations proceed. FA is doing the same by saying they want allow ESL players to represent their country.

Luke

But that would mean they are negotiating to set up a league for who? It's the clubs behind this entire thing, why would they create something there were not guaranteed to be involved in.

posted on 19/4/21

They are almost guaranteed to be involved even if they change the format to top6.

ESL will increase the wealth gap even further. so barring an utter catastrophe, all the founding members are guaranteed to participate every season

Maybe except for Arsenal and spurs

Luke

And you honestly believe Spurs and Arsenal would be on board with setting something like to this up if they then may not be part of it some years!

posted on 19/4/21

Yes, I think they will back themselves to qualify on merit. They will definitely finish top six almost every year.

Even if they don’t, it a much more profitable alternative to what they face at the moment

Well said, objective comment. I feel like those playing Devil’s advocate on this don’t quite comprehend that the idea of guaranteed entry each year is a massive issue.

Ajax - 4 time winners of the European Cup = No Super Lesgue.

Man City - Not even made the final of the European Cup = Super League.

And that’s all I have to say about that.
