Greed is a horrible monster but our society let it happen. From football to things like the highstreet

.....

And High-street business fail if you don’t buy the product.

You have to kind of marvel at the Glazers & Woodward leading the charge on this at the exact same time that one of their star players launches a book club for disadvantaged kids.

I have not read the full story but anyone who thinks jose sacking is down to ESL probably still believes in tooth fairies

Probably a coincidence

Smokescreen

Monday morning and I've not heard nothing on SSN or BBC about the Super league. Its all about Jose. It's taken the attention away from the ESL.

The fans are the ones who can easily stop this.

Don’t go to matches and boycott all the sponsors products.

In a very short time you will see a back down.

The only thing players can do is refuse to play. Which I would actually like to see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like United fans did with the Prem you mean.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah tbh you're completely right. When the Prem was set up as a closed shop, removing promotion and relegation, it was a disgrace. Sheffield Wednesday have been rubbish for years but have remained in the PL throughout. And poor Burnley here clearly been the best team in the Championship for years but with no promotion as a reward
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I meant when United fans boycotted Sky / BT and sponsors products in protest at the Glazers ownership
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah right. Sorry for my sarcastic response in that case

Let’s be real, no one is going to go through with the boycott when we are hosting Real Madrid.

You are right. My point was about how our highstreet has been transformed (rightly/wrongly) as bigger retail stores dominated and people loyalty to their local small business on the high street erroded. Funny (or saddly), the once big business that wipped out the smaller stores are now facing an existencial crisis as the likes of amazon is doing to them what they did to smaller stores.

The common theme, we all let it happen. Going to these big business instead of local businesses etc. In the same way, I will bet everything I own that after the initial uproar we will all be again supporting ESL teams with our money instead of the smaller clubs who actually need it

Watch it on a dodgy live stream from home for free, bypassing whichever TV channels show the game and direct ticket revenues.

as long as you watch it the ESL will still make a lot in sponsorship.

Business will pay sponsorship money for the games knowing the eyes of all of europe will be on the games and inevitably what ever the business want to sell us

Ed is probably head of ESL marketing department

I was being a little tongue in cheek. But in that case you'd just boycott any of the sponsors - don't buy their products or put your money into anything or anyone that has anything to do with that competition.

Though in writing the above, I have to say that while the opposition to this is nice, and the level of disgust at the proposals a perfectly sane reaction, I do rather wish people would put such effort and consideration into boycotting and opposing significantly more serious issues, companies and interests. It's kind of difficult to read some of the fan reaction to this knowing that many fans put Tories in power, or that 99% of fans are complicit in the ongoing existence of slaughterhouses. Dozens of other examples are also available!

These ESL proposals are just a sporting extension of problems deeply embedded into our wider economic and political arrangements; unelected and unaccountable billionaire ownership and private concentrations of wealth and capital doing things to further consolidate those advantages.

Not personally, but the idea that Burnley *could* get into the CL is definitely a far more exciting and interesting proposition than anything the ESL has to offer. And that's the point.

Copied and pasted from another thread:

It’s not the best analogy obviously, but regarding the debate around players taking increased wage vs international football/clubs not in ESL, most successful players playing in Europe could probably accept a move to the Middle East, or China and be able to x2 or x3 their wage in the process. Of course, some players do, but not all.

If ESL actually goes through with a ban on those players doing international, it’ll probably be a mix of players staying at normal club level and those doing ESL.

I’ve also just thought there’s a slight risk ESL becomes a league for those who are nearing the middle-end of their international career who would not accept the extra money

If the fans of those clubs boycott the games as well, it’s not going to look great selling your super league with half empty stadiums. Doubt most of the fans in favour of it go to the games anyway
