Young people still love football. I’m a young person myself and during the champions league games pre lockdown every pub was packed.

I think what he means by loving football is spending money getting tickets to matches and spending money on merchandise

Being in a pub yelling ‘yeah!!!’ Doesn’t count for sheit for those people, they want numbers (your wallet)

I don’t think people physically support ‘less’ their clubs

But when wages don’t rise and clubs charge more every year pricing people out of anything club related of course the young generation ain’t gonna ‘support’ their club financially

But they don’t want fans like that, they want fans half way across the planet who will buy 5 football shirts in one go when their favourite team visits their country but the same ‘fans’ probably haven’t been to anfield old trafford even once in their life

Numbers. Statistics. Fans.

footblah is boring now - everything's been done.. the GOATs are basically at retirement age now (ronaldo+messi)
saw and predicted ac milan winning the CL
saw mourinho win with inter
saw fergie
saw arsene wenger spinning kids on a merry-go-round at what i guess was a council estate
saw drogba burying the cheating refs in the CL
heard richard keys burying theo walcott and Ruud Gullit asking who f@rted
I mean what more can the sport offer? It's the same problem for other sports too - maybe Jai Alai will make a comeback and I can watch it in Miami and drive a lambo

I am a pool fan

I spent an absurd amount of money to go to games I want to go to, physically, (kiev 2018, anfield v Barcelona 2019, Brighton home 2019, anfield v Dortmund 2016, Real Madrid 2014 home and away, pool at United away fa cup off the top of my head, I would’ve gone to Madrid 2019 if I didn’t have a clash as you can’t plan for a cl final), I count myself as a supporter

But because I never spend a penny for merchandise at the club and I get my tickets legit from American Express to them I’m not a fan. This is what I’ve come to realise and it’s depressing

Oh yes we’ve seen it all so let’s set up a tournament where we see it all over and over and over again. That will be so interesting!!!

gotta love him

Viva Madrid !!

Let's get him to speak to fans of Bury FC and other teams that are on the brink of going the same way as them - I'm sure Real Madrid losing 400mil will be of far bigger concern for them

The reason why 18-24 yr olds seemingly lose interest is because of the cost of going to games, tickets at £55 ffs!

Legacy fans? That’s what they call us, legacy fans. The facking atmosphere, and support that the fans bring to the game which is what helps sell the product they “serve” up.

PPV I ain’t having that

This ESL stuff will also mean that they will be able to put matches in different territories just like NFL do..

Please spare me the faux outrage. It's been heading this way for 30 years an you all voted for it with your Sky subscription.

This stuff about “if the big boys fail, the entire football pyramid collapses,” is wilfully dishonest.

Football is the perfect sporting example of how trickle-down economics works in practice, demonstrating clearly that the trickle is, at best, a drip. They know this. And they also want to to turn the tap off completely.

Real and Barca are fan-owned clubs. If they are on the verge of going bust, their fans can do two things:

1. Inject capital into the clubs to keep them afloat
2. Stop electing presidents with complete fiscal abandon who have driven transfer fees and wages through the roof and failed their fans by failing to balance the books.

Whilst I agree with your point, the issue is mainly that there is a finite capacity in stadiums. Liverpool pretty much sell out every game, at that £55 price point. Drop the price to £20 and the stadium will still be full, with the exact same people and those youngsters still miss out.

Between them, the last few presidents have left the club in the state it currently sits in, which, according to Perez, is perilous.
