Too big and strong for the super league if we don't get him and join the SL, too small and weak for the prem if we get him and stay in the prem. Best young winger in the world right now and would ace the super league if we get him and we join the SL, proven PL quality if we get him and stay in the prem. I have never seen him play.

Is he willing to give up his international career?

I will change my username to #1 donkey if any ESL player has to give up their international careers

empty threats with no legal backing

It would have been a good shout, Robb, had football not died.

National rugby union boards (e.g. Wales) maintain selection policies that prevent players playing abroad being selected for their national sides presumably to maintain the quality and integrity of their national club competitions.

Wales situation is significant because it tells us that contemporary employment law, both in the UK and the EU, allows it.

He wont go to man u, that's for certain. We blocked massive offers for Phillips, way over what he was worth at the time, out of principle.

Hopefully he's back for Sunday to run you ragged.

Thanks for letting me know. I was not aware as I do not watch rugby.
But this is a selection policy that a nation chooses to maintain its integrity. This is different from UEFA/FIFA telling England, Spain, Germany etc that they cannot field the majority of their best players.

All because said players play in the ESL. There is nothing fundamentally illegal about the ESL even if most feel it is morally wrong

apparently euro 2016 generated revenues of c. €2bn, with a profit to uefa of over €800m. remove all the ESL players and then see how those numbers look.

that's a hell of a lot of money to risk on a move that may work, or may just end up alienating players across europe.

It's not doing much for the Regions in Wales that's for sure! It does give the Welsh Rugby Union access to players though as and when required. If the player plays outside of Wales then the club he's had holds the power.

Tbf I get the feeling loads of players aren’t that fussed about playing for their country.

I don't think that applies to all of them but I'd say the ones that are probably most bothered play for clubs that won't be in Super League anyway.

It's precedent though. So it would appear although it could be tested that they do have the power to stop these players playing in internationals.

Imo the Government will put the nail in the coffin with this anyway. They won't want to lose the soft power of the Premier League and by holding onto that it will also be a massive vote winner for them.

Got history for taking us out of Europe already too

I agree. I was just making the point it's not been a success for the Welsh clubs!

It surely wouldn't be classed as restricting any trade as the footballers can still earn and still play for their country based on who they play for.
