Agree Els re Gelhardt. However I think we'll see the under 23s just featuring (and staying on) the bench for rest of the season unless injuries/suspensions force Bielsa's hand with us fighting tooth and nail for every available point. That's not to say that some of these lads, especially Geldhardt couldn't have done well it's just how I see it panning out.

The key is in the pre-season training and the pre-season matches and it is in that period that I expect to see the best under 23s get serious game time and step up on a more permanent basis.

To be fair say you get two goals up or down with 20 minutes left I am not sure it would kill to have a look at him. Seems to have a confidence about him that would be great to see tested out.

I thought Roberts was finished at Leeds a few months ago, just had made no impact at all this season. But last few months, he's been good. Frustrating still, definitely, he takes too many touches sometimes and makes the wrong choice, but has made an impact.

If it wasn't for VAR, he would have a goal and 2 assists, also set up great chances for Harrison against Sheff Utd and then Liverpool and Bamford against Chelsea.

He's not our first choice, but as a squad player, who are going to get in that would be better and what cost? Same with Costa, to move him on and sign a replacement would cost loads. He's 2nd choice and has shown he can make an impact this season.

We need a left back and a centremid IMO. Anything else is a bonus.

Edmondson has been told he can go, think its a good move for him as he has time on his side and can move back up the leagues, main targets are a right footed winger ( was told about the Rubin Kazan lad last week) and a left back also think if someone they thought wasnt available but became so and could improve the team then they would sign them,

Out (all out of contract end of season)
-----
Ouasim Bouy
Ryan Edmondson
Kun Temenuzhkov
Ezgian Alioski
Gaetano Berardi
Pablo Hernandez

May also go (all got just over 1 year contract left)
Rafa Mujica
Jordan Stevens (cant get in lower league teams)
Laurens De Bock
Bryce Hosannah (injury prone)
Bobby Kamwa (behind others who are younger)

Agree on Edmondson

Surprised a winger is priority over a midfielder.

If right footed winger is priority what does that mean for Harrison?

Do you know if Rodrigo was originally signed to play where he has or as a 9?

my main problem with both costa and roberts is they are very lightweight and too easy to knock f the ball, think if roberts could toughen up it would improve him all round but costa is like a little girl and is not the player i thought we were getting. I know hes in there somewhere just seems scared to come out

We have a crazy imbalance of left footed attackers... only Roberts is right footed - bamford, Harrison, costa, Rodrigo, Raphinha, poveda... all left footed.

Right footed winger could be Harrison/costa/poveda alternative from a squad perspective, but if the assumption that the signing would be a starter then I guess Jack’s place is the most ‘at risk’

I don't see the Georgian lad being signed to start. He's twenty, and his stats are okay (but worse than Harrison's in a worse league). Think he'd be more a bench option that gives something a bit different to the other options there. Could argue that Kent or James would want to start, but I don't believe the interest in either is genuine. Easy to link us with players we have wanted before.

On Gelhardt and Greenwood, I just don't see either playing much next season. Gelhardt has half a season of mostly substitute appearances at Champ level. A full season of regular starts would not be a bad thing, but with the U23s a level higher, I would expect them to stick around. I think casey is the most likely of those players to be loaned out.

Of mason Greenwood can cut it in the first team at Man Utd, is there any reason why we cannot trust Sam Greenwood (less than 4 months younger) to cut it next season in the first team at Leeds United?

Ditto Joe Geldhardt and Crysencio Summerville.

I’d like to see them thrust in with licence to win their spot in the regular squad on a weekly basis in the early games.

Costa is getting plenty of game time but still manages to look lightweight. However, we would be lucky to recoup a third of what we paid, so I am sure he is staying.
Klich was excellent for the first half of the season, but he has had COVID and looks very tired. Likewise Rodrigo.
I think we all know where we need new players, but we also need to see the best of what we’ve got. We have a rare opportunity to try out some of our under-23’s and our fringe players over the next few weeks. We should take full advantage of it.
The big question mark for me is how well our boys can perform with fans in the stadium. I think players like Rodrigo need the fans to get the best out of them, whereas Bamford has been much more focused and composed without them.
A final thought on who we bring in next season. It depends on how far we want to go, and how fast we want to get there. Rads has already delivered on his first plan. There is a lot to be said for solidifying our place in the Premier League, but with 37,000 Fans baying for success, we may find ourselves under much more pressure next season. As long as we get Bielsa to sign for another year, we should be fine.

Of the U23's I see a future for Drameh, Cresswell, Huggins, possibly Jenkins, Summerville, Greenwood and Gelhardt.

Unfortunately I am not so optimistic about Casey, Kenneh, McKinstry, McCarron, Kamwa, Edmondson, Stevens or Gotts.

I would like to see what MacCalmont can do he appears to be doing well at Oldham.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really don’t think Ryan Edmundson has had any chance to showcase his abilities; he started well at Aberdeen, then got injured just before their first choice recovered from injury and then spends the rest of the season at a club which has just been relegated, which unsurprisingly means he wasn’t playing with players able to help his cause.

He is the one I have sympathy for.

Next season, if want to see how young Max Dean gets on in the Under-23s if Greenwood/Geldhardt get a chance in the first team.

This is the second thread where people have commented such statements without actually offering a reasonable approach to selling Costa/replacing him in a way that makes financial sense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
costa is way out of his depth, we should realise by now we will never get back or even close to what we were mugged of by wolves. the longer he stay the less we get back, cash in asap. we will be looking at replacements mark my words. if we are to progress his is not the answer.

Costa doesn’t need to go. If we happen to find a better alternative at a reasonable price and a buyer for Costa then yes fine.

But no where near a priority.

yes it is, it will happen

I actually think we would be fine with 2 signings. (On top of Harrison)

An 8 & a LB.

That will already mean leaving out;

Klich, Dallas, Costa, Poveda, Koch, Struijk, Forshaw, Roberts

It really isn't the end of the world.

I suspect we will be looking at a right footed winger like the OP mentions, and a further midfielder, but neither will be vital and should only be made if the right players is available at the right price.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
the progress we need to bring in higher quality of players than we have, don't get what most don't see, we need to strengthen in certain areas for me lb, rw, amf, reserve gk.

if alioski rumours are true then we need a better replacement
costa is out of his depth must get much better in
sadly klich is still suffering the back lash of covid & pabs must be fed up not playing so need a higher quality of provider in the cmf
kiko must also be fed up not starting must be moved on and replaced, he must be on a fortune for a reserve

posted on 28/4/21

...........also forshaw is not the answer to acmf, we are so short of real quality

Think Greenwood is interesting and illustrates the impact that Bielsa has throughout the club. Brought in as a striker but is being developed into midfield. Fantastic returns given the fact he doesn't start up front anymore.
There is definite a plan there.

One of Bielsa USP's is that he develops players. One guy who has gone backwards appears to be Davis. He hasn't had the minutes with the U23's. We have few natural left backs and with his pace, I was expecting him to get some minutes but he hasn't. Maybe another who, for his future development, needs to leave.

Roberts has sooooo much potential. So obvious there's a good player there. I just wish he could get a goal or two, i think that could really lift him even further.

So you don’t think we will be ok with just a LB & a midfielder, but the other 2 we desperately need are for the bench?

If we are not going to be ok with the 2 I said don’t you think we should be looking to improve on the starters first?

you do know we have Raphinha at RW?

posted on 28/4/21

There's a reaslly good player here, since arriving he's had about 4 maybe 5 sub appearances, not shown a lot but that might take time, last game he came on, played 15 or so minutes than was taken off injured, seems he's going to be out for a while, but we all know what Leeds are like, he's injured so we could get him cheap!..

Mind, Leeds let him go while injured so maybe they'll know it wouldn't work!..

What's his name, have to think, Jay or Roy, Grot I think his name is, I might have to see a bit more off him to let his name sink in!.
