Aurier

He was fasting today as well. Second to Bale in the man of the match stakes but there seems to be no middle ground with him. Wasn't really tested defensively today but we all know when our backs are against the wall he will make a silly mistake which leads to a goal like last week in the cup final. He was excellent today.

KWP looks at least as good, has a much higher ceiling, and we let him go for 13m. We could definitely do better than Aurier. Yes he was decent today but Doherty would've done alright against that lot.

Credit wheee credit is due, he played very well. Lovely ball for the first goal

He has good attributes but his defensive recklessness and errors mean that he will cost us too often. Unfortunately, we need to upgrade

Did well today. But doesn’t change my opinion that the whole of the back four needs looking at. Would keep Reggie, Rodon and possibly Foyth. Everyone else needs to go

My OP have already forgotten Aurier is the one who gave away that free kick from which we conceded the sole goal of the final only a week before?
He is very good when the opponent don’t play through their flank but when they do it, and they attack is constantly, Aurier is time bomb waiting to commit that extra foul from which either he gives away a pen or a free kick in dangerous position. Remember West Ham? Yeah Aurier conceded a free kick from which they scored and there are endless examples!

Yes he gave away that foul in the final but we then failed to defend it well. Didn't understand why Sisokko was marking their danger man and he did a poor job.

But Aurier does do this too often although to be fair he has reduced the number of mistakes a lot. Hasn't given a pen away for ages

Would be interesting to see Aurier and Reg used on the left and right of midfield in a 4-4-2, both have pace and love to attack.

I actually blame Sissoko and lloris more.

Sissoko useless marking
Lloris didn't come to catch, stayed on his line.

We seldom blame players that give away corners for Goals from corners. He is rash at times but it will be interesting to see the foul charts and where he ranks.

He had a good game but he was under no pressure to defend, gave him licence to get forward as much as he wanted and in fairness he’s not bad at that. The big area of concern with him is his defending and the stupid mistakes he is prone to. You judge across a span of time, not an isolated game, just like with Jose the first time we whacked Sheff Utd I won’t let a win against such a poor opponent change my views - he’s not good enough and will always keeping costing us against better opponents when we’re under pressure. But yeah, he affected the game really positively yesterday so good on him, credit where it’s due.

Agreed, he loves attacking. The Spurs way that many have called for.

Aurier is marmite, you either love him or you don't. Personally I rate him higher than Doherty but would prefer Max Aarons.

On current form Aurier is the best full back at the club, and that includes Regulion, who is a not very good defender, but OK going forward.

Aurier always gives 100 per cent every match. You cannot ask for much more.

Aurier looked good against what is essentially a championship team, because that is his level. He had almost no defending to do because the opposition was so poor, and had time and space to get forward.

Unfortunately, against better opposition and when it really matters, he lets us down time and again with rash schoolboy errors. He is a liability and can not be trusted, no matter how many good games he has, he needs upgrading if we are going to get to where we want to be.

so Aurier is the same as Regulion, would agree with that, both better further up the pitch, just need to have decent defenders covering for them and a manager that plays the formation to suit that

KWP is lightweight. Good going forward but weak defensively. Still needs to fill out to become a rounded full back.

Yes... Aurier had a good game...

But this was against the worst team in the Premier League...

Against better opponents, his defending & distribution is usually poor...

He’s not good enough for Spurs

Agreed. When a coach knows the strengths of his players he must gave a system that maximises their abilities. 2 good CBs and 2 powerful CMs that patrol the defensive spaces is whats key to free our attacking players. Hojbjerg needs a twin. Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele can then rotate or fight it out for the creative CM role.

Hojbjerg needs a twin.

Who is? Doherty?

........................................................

Doherty is actually worse...

Neither Doherty or Aurier are good enough...

I would sell both... buy a better right back... & have Tananga as back up... or bring Foyth back

Foyth is very good on the ball... just a bit rash... he has a lot of potential anyway

Aurier’s contract is due to run out, soon

I would not be offering him a new one, that’s for certain... bloody liability

I think you'll find that Foyth is very similar to Aurier good going forward but very rash defending would be no improvement

We played what is a Championship team yesterday.
Everyone looked good against them.

But the truth is the whole back four needs to be replaced. Reguilon should probably be kept, but he may get called back to RM. Toby is still good but pushing his time limit. Aurier, Sanchez, ... are just not good enough.
Pity of it all is that Kane may have lost patience. His advisors are certainly telling him so.
