Best signing is like picking a POTY this year. Davis, Kent, Goldson, McGregor all in the mix.

Honourable mentions too to Borna, Kamara and Helander.

For value to the team and resale value versus purchase price you would have to say Kamara is a stand out.

For box office and entertainment value (plus ever improving end product stats) you would go for Kent who really is moving on up to that next level.

There have been a few ropey young guys signed on loan like Ejaria, Ojo and Worrell but the worst permanent signing IMO would probably be Jake Hastie.

He had, what, a half decent two month spell for Motherwell and we give him a four year deal?

Most pointless signing who has lasted the course would be Greg Stewart. Seems a nice chap, propbably contributes well in training and has never been a moment of trouble but lets be honest - he isnt a Rangers first team player in a million years.

Umar Sadiq for me would be the worst signing. I can understand how it happened, needed players quickly and it was a loan with decent pedigree from Roma but it was evident early on he was terrible.

Forgot about Jake Hastie, he's a bit of a strange one as regardless of how he has been with us he's disappeared even since going back to Motherwell. He was electric the season before we signed him and given it was a Bosman it was low enough risk to take a punt on him but he's not kicked on at all.

Davis for best signing, although you could name ten other players and each of them would have an argument to be considered the best.

Grezda was the worst signing for me. A couple million quid and he barely kicked a ball for us. Luckily we got something back for him.

It's a strange one with Gerrard, it's been up and down from the outside looking in

His record in Europe is brilliant, don't think anyone expected Rangers to be as competitive as they have been

League wise it's been a mixed bag, fell apart last season when in the driving seat, seasons before that nothing great but better than it had been (not hard) then this season runaway winners, looks like they'll go undefeated.

Cup wise it's been a disaster, 1 cup final and only 1 other semi I think? Scottish has been very disappointing don't think Rangers have made it to Hampden in the Scottish

Up until this season Rangers fans I'd say were maybe 60-40 with him when it came the tactical side of things, going by 606, Twitter, phone in a lot of fans thought he couldn't change a game, no plan b etc

I'd give him an 8 out of 10 for the fact he stopped the 10

but a 6 if you take away the fact we were going for the 10 and it wasn't just a normal season

posted on 4/5/21

The encouraging thing about Gerrard has always been the visible progression.

Whilst we still had no right to win the league this season SG would probably have gone if we hadnt.

The cups are a strange phenomenon but I would expect that to maybe improve now the monkey is off our back of winning the league.

A bit like Morleos scoring against celtic. You knew as soon as one came along then we wouldnt need to wait too long for another.

One trophy in 3 seasons is all hes won ..in whats effectively a two horse race

yes it was the one you wanted but still lets not disguise the fact that covid also had a huge impact on that as well.

Had last seasons league not been called there are those who think Gerrard would no longer be in the rangers job ...whos to know.

but certainly Celtics dubai trip also had a huge bearing on things ...coming back , missing all those players .,. drawing twice with livi and then hibs going into an old firm all but wrapped things up by then . Our own fault ...as was appointing Lennon

that said hes certainly improved things since coming into the club and made some shrewd signings , i think though were rangers have prospered most is in the backroom team
Beale is brilliant and i see everything going on at the academy . that place is almost unrecognisable from 2 years ago
I think King deserves credit for this ....its one thing putting a here and now team out but hes certainly secured a throughput for the future

Yes without all this I think you would have toppled unbeaten Rangers

It is a two horse race where Celtic had a massive head start in when SG arrived. And one in which Celtic have continued to enjoy far superior financial resources.

Rangers have outperformed Celtic in Europe for the past two seasons. We have been slowly building something.

Sure cup success would have been a bonus. But I would rather judge SG and his team on romping the league this year and reaching the knock out stages of Europe rather than focussing on the slightly unfortunate negative of two last kick of the ball goals in cup games this year.

Highlight over the 3 years?

The January OF win this season, that was job done and 55 in the bag. Good to see a boyhood bluenose get the winner too

Best signing?

Kent, twice. The x-factor and prime Tim skelper in our team.

Worst signing?

Simpson will go on to be. Bombscare.

Best performance?

Cannae mind, lots of them.

Best game?

5-2 v Antwerp very enjoyable but probably missing a better one.

Worst performance?

St Mirren with a depleted team. Got played off the park for most of it.

Lowest moment?

Hearts last season in the cup. Dire.

Where does he rank among previous Rangers Managers?

On a par with McLeish.

posted on 4/5/21

FFS i'd forgotten about the likes of Grezda, Worrall, Sadiq, Ojo, Hastie.

Ojo at least contributed. Schite but got important goals a couple of times. The rest murder and i might apologise to Simpson, he will not be as bad as Worrall i hope.

I actually though Greg Stewart was good for us in the little cameos he got.

Highlight over the 3 years? - The weekend we won the title has to be it. The completion of the "journey" and end of the banter years. I had a wee tear at the final whistle in Tannadice. Although it was a game i wasn't that interested in and missed the first 20 mins, Sunday was a close second. They needed a pumpin.

Best signing?
This one is difficult?Does McGregor count as Gerrard admits that deal was done already. Kent is becoming a talisman. Goldson a Rock. Im gonna go for Borna though £1.2 million is just a farce for him.

Worst signing? Grezda. no words.

Best performance? THis one maybe gets forgotten. McGregor vs Maribor. If he doesnt make those saves we are out of Europe and europe both for the money generated and the confidence it gave the squad paved the way for 55

Best game? Porto at Ibrox or the Hagi inspired comeback vs braga. Both wonderful nights.

Worst performance? Gotta say the Hearts cup defeat, watching Saddiq! Crazy he is doing so well

Lowest moment? The second post dubai collapse. Once was bad enough but twice was gut wrenching. We had them on toast and let them off the hook

Where does he rank among previous Rangers Managers? Still behind McLeish, Souness and Smith. I put him ahead of Advocaat though, love the guy but he had ridiculous resources available.

I think Simpson just needs game time and needs to sharpen up a bit but he looks at worst like he will be a decent squad player for us.

I have nothing against Stewart and yes he looks half decent in games when he comes on when we are 3 or 4 nil up.

But when he has started games he has produced next to nothing and been a big disappointment.

I dunno how anyone thinks on the evidence so far Simpson will be a decent player. Scares me whenever he gets involved.

It's possible right enough, i just haven't seen anything positive yet. Were we to sell Helander we would need to get a replacement not just move Simpson up a spot and introduce Katic back into the fold.

He won a good few aerial battles, his left foot looks decent and he had one very composed drag back when he was last man against Eduoard.

Admittedly he tried it again later on and made an erchie of it

I dont think he is going to be a superstar and there is plenty to improve on but I think he has done ok for someone who has hardly played.

I saw Helander playing against Chelsea at Auchinhowie when he was trying to get back up to fitness at the start of last season and he was very poor. He looked like an absolute donkey - slow to read things, hesitant on the ball, weak in the air etc.

Simpson definitely has some of the basic attributes - decent frame, good left foot, fairly mobile, (generally) composed on the ball.

As I said plenty to improve on but I wont be writing him off just yet.

The criticism of Simpson depresses me.

The boy may or may not turn out to be a bad signing, but to have written him off already as so many have done after 2 starts and 1 sub appearance is dreadful. I saw the same comments about Helander after 45 mins of a bounce game against Chelsea 21s and Morelos after his first few games.

Gerrard has signed him for the player he thinks he can help him become rather than the player he is now, and the whole reason for bringing him in during Jan than wait until Summer was to let him adapt whilst the pressure was supposedly off. If the boy is a diddy this time next year fine but the least he deserves is a chance. Not like he's actually cost us anything yet either, we won 4-1 on Sunday with him at the back.

5 games he's played and he's had at least one bombscare moment in each of them. Let them get a free header for their goal and let Edouard in at the weekend.

I hope i'm wrong as much as you guys do but he's odds on to be a schiter.

Sometime you know in minutes if a guys got it or not. You can make a fairly decent assessment in 5 appearances.

I was a CB all my days and always watch them pretty closely.

Simpson has not dont anything wrong in the games he has played that our other CBs havent done this season.

He has a lot of the basic attributes and a lot of the things he did against celtic impressed me. He had two bad moments against Celtic where he lost a header to Ajer then gave the ball to Edouard.

The rest of the game he did OK for me.

And for a first OF start thats not too bad.

Time will tell but I havent seen anything to suggest Simpson doesnt represent a player that can be worked with and developed.

As I said at worst he will be a passable back up for Helander.

Goldson is best signing for me - he’s been first name on the team sheet, and the defence has been the big difference between us and Celtic. McGregor has been brilliant but he barely had to face a shot on target before Christmas.

Think criticism of Simpson is nonsense at this stage, he’s got a lot of good attributes, is a free signing and has came in having not played much at all this season.

When you think of the ridiculous criticism Goldson and Tav got even last season, thought folk would give players more time. Although saying that I wrote off Zungu after two games as well so no better.

I think with Zungu you could see it was his playing style rather than his attributes that quickly suggested he might not be a good fit for us.

He was too laid back and played with no real drive or urgency. A 28 year old player is unlikely to change his whole style of play and approach to the game.

Simpson for me is a totally different scenario.

His first aerial challenge with Edouard he thumped into and won cleanly. So that tells me the lad can head a ball.

He might just need a bit of work at not losing his man at corners - that can definitely be worked on.

He did Edouard with a drag back first half so that shows he has some composure and ability on the ball. The one he lost second half just shows he needs a bit of coaching on when to pick his moments and when to get rid.

So for me Simpson just needs a bit of work but Zungu just wasnt right for us.
