We got this. Now we have to make something of it xxx
Clearly a big issue with Ibe and I would get rid of him and any with the same attitude ASAP. A couple of good journeymen wouldn’t go amiss, but get some coaching support and target players with the right attitude first
I wouldn’t have too many loanees, and not as key dependencies. We lost Mount, Wilson and Tomori in one hit, closely followed by Keoghs injury and the whole spine was ripped out of the team

Wycombe started playing with freedom once they thought they were doomed, as sometimes happens. They SHOULD have been, in fact Rotherham and Wednesday should and would have also been cut adrift if we had just performed moderately poorly over the last ten games. We managed to keep them all in it. You could say that all four deserved to go down since in some years you go down with 48 points. Don't care though.

Morning after view :
Morning all. Well, what an afternoon. In the end it felt like we'd won the league. Hey !
It was like the old days...I could hear fans chanting and singing from the Ashbourne road area of town...maybe it was at the Greyhound ?
Anyway, just a few comments as I can see much of it has been said....in nearly 1,000 comments....is that a record ???
As me & Mrs Hennessy sat in front of our 65 inch at 12.25 we looked at the team sheet....to see another of the young lads on the bench....C Davies...never heard of him. ....blimey, it's Curtis says I !!
In the end we got through by the skin of our teeth and coulda made it certain by Roberts putting away the one on one with Westfield the goalie.
It seems bizarre that the whole season was defined by one goal scored in the last 15 mins - the penalty by Waghorm...my mom. But in such tiny issues do more massive one's hinge.
Well done Derby. Lets not go here again eh.....UTR

My old man just asked who I think will get player of the year….. can’t even say the fans this season 🙄
After the relief of yesterday, back to reality. Surviving by the skin of your teeth one season is often followed by relegation in the next.
The experiment with trying to build a team around the academy players seems doomed to failure. In all the years (nearly 60) I have been watching Derby I don't think we have produced 11 quality players. If anyone can make a team of 11 home produced players over thet period be my guest. Start with Ron Webster and ending with Will Hughes there aren't many in between. Of the recent crop some like Knight and Sibley have flattered to deceive where as the likes of Bird haven't even flattered.
Derby have always done their best business by raiding the lower leagues (and even none league) for hidden gems. A decent scouting team would probably be a better investment than the academy.

Clarke or Shinnie ?
Lean toward Shinnie

I don't think the plan was ever to build it around the academy but have some kind of spine of a team to blood the youngsters in slowly, as opposed to depend on them for a relegation battle.
Had Bielik and Davies stayed fit and had we an all singing dancing striker. We could have rotated Sibley, Knight, Watson and Bird, given them a few cameos, guidance and coaching instead of throwing them in front of the headlights. Wonder if they'd have learned more under Bowyer with the U23's, than they did this season.
If that had been the case re. fitness though we'd have only been dependent on the academy for one of the CM role n back up for the full backs, which I think is fine for an academy.
Have to look at our fitness regime too with all those injuries, agree 100 on the scouting been our weak point consistently.
Yep Clarke for me Tommo.

Don't agree with all of that Spart.
Our problem is not that we can't produce good young players, it's that we expect too much of them too soon OR we sell them!
Knight is a good player but had way too much pressure on his shoulders. Same with Sibley. Bird will be decent ... but ...
It's all about the progession from "youth" to "adult" football.
You have to blend teenagers into a team not expect them to form the nucleus of a side straight away.
Ideally, into a successful side.
So, you're right about the experiment failing but wrong about not producing good young players.
Add Hendrick, Lowe, Bogle, Whittaker to your list. I'm sure there's more but I've got a cup final to win this morning.
I don't think Shinnie has played well. I think the fans love his heart and ratting but he cannot start an attack, sits back way to deep, he's quite decent at taking a man on when he does venture into the final third n ratting but in terms of creativity he never looks up or forward. I'd like to see him with a decent number 8 though and holding MF alongside him. I think Byrne has tried but no-one runs off him. CKR I think has shown some leadership.
It's been awful though. Like f$$$$g awful.
