Liverpool's Horror Season

posted on 6/5/21

Liverpool have suffered from losing an usually high amount of defenders and midfielders to injury. Especially with the defence, it's meant they've had to move key midfielders into he back line, meaning the highline can't be used. Caused big gaps u can't just plug unless u have pots of money. Even then it took pep how long to find Kompanys replacement?

When u add henderson/fabinho not being in midfield, and the defence no longer pinning teams up the pitch, all of a sudden they are a totally different team. It's to be expected really.

Is they sign a top CB and have gomez/VD back, as well as being able to play henderson/tiago/fabinho together in midfield I think the team looks incredibly strong.

I don't think united have improved as much as the table suggests. A full strength Liverpool team I'd take over a full strength united/Chelsea team personally.

United and Chelsea still have weaknesses and I'm sure if they had suffered the same number of freak injuries to players of comparable importance they'd also have dropped in the table 100%

Fans are fickle. A drop of form for one season seems to nulify players playing out their skins for 3-4 seasons it's mental

We've lost once in the last 8. We need to get a couple of signings right (we're good at that though) plus VVD and Henderson and we'll be fine.

It's not a drop in form, this is Liverpool's real level.

The EPL probably tightened up it's PED testing.

Brexit caused issues with inhalers.

Add Van Dijk back into that team, stop the delusion around Keita being a player and bin him and buy a genuine no9 and they will be in the mix with Chelsea and City

Attack is where we need improvement the most. Mane has regressed and Firmino is awful.

Lots of it is due to the defence not pushing up high and suffocating teams. Makes it much easier to create and dominate in the opponents half. Also makes it easier to create chances. The drop in form of the attack is definitely down to the defence and midfield changes that have been forced on Klopp I think.

I think Klopp's team has peaked. It tends to happen when you look at his teams. They will likely be better next season than they have been this season, but I'll be surprised if he takes them to the highs of the previous seasons.

How can that be described as "hardly from a top side"

Apparently Spurs are the worst team in the world
( according to media pundits and 95% of opposition fans, yet:
Are higher than Liverpool in the PL at present
Went further than Liverpool in the FA Cup
Went considerably further than Liverpool in the League Cup.
And only one round worst in Europe.

People perceptions can be a mystery at times.

Liverpool's cups buys them breathing space but it is funny how heavily criticised Spurs & especially Jose are when we all know they have under performed but we are far from being alone in that respect.

The decline of Liverpool has been far more striking. We are boring and negative but have scored more than them.

There are some parallels with Liverpool now and Spurs under Poch, the way that very good form and progress suddenly dropped off a cliff.

"I actually think they will just about make Top , think Leicester will drop enough points but they are in a difficult position."

I'm guessing he meant top 4, so he was spot on with that predo

Finishing third isn't too bad for a horror season.

Hasn't aged yet. Nothing he said has been proved right nor wrong. That will be next season.
