Farewell to 26.Though some future role for him is under consideration I hear. I'll go 2-2 James or Fejiri to score.
Sentiment over logic for me. 2-1 to Rovers. Copps with the both goals.
1-0 to rovers coppinger to score
I'd love to watch Copps final game, but 04:30 is a little early! If I'm awake I will turn on my computer.
I see Fergie is saying he will play a few younger players, and I thought "Good", but AB says he is doing the same. Who knows what will happen.
I think Fergie has a lot of respect for Copps, and will do something special - hopefully allowing him to score!
I was going to say 3-2 to the Rovers, but will stay with it although who knows who AB will play (Richards is already back at Boumemouth), and say Copps to score.
Next season I see we will have local games with Wednesday and Rotherham - welcome back DM!
Rovers 1-1 Peterborough
John-Jules to score⚽
The final results of the series are below and Mooligan is the only scorer on the last 2 games after topping good performances in the last 3 years. I realised that I omitted to acclaim Nookie as the winner of the abandoned 2019/20 season.
We still have the appointment of the new manager to look forward to and I cannot remember feeling quite like I do today about what may lie ahead. The new person will have a truly unenviable task. I think I read that 2 of the final short-listed candidates decided against proceeding with their candidacy and you cannot help feeling that the recent performances of the team could have prompted this. The club have badly mismanaged the last 3 months and it is not really excusable.

Donald, Once again many thanks for all your thoughtful and thought provoking pre match reviews and for keeping score. An unusual season to say the least. Like many others I thought just after Christmas we might make the automatic places. Two ex Rovers Managers have done it though. So I'm confident the board will make a good choice. We are a well run and managed club after all. Some good derby's to look forward to next year. Might even include Derby! I Hope Andy Butler isn't too scarred by his experience. He wasn't dealt that good a hand. Hopefully managing the Belles will help him regain both confidence and experience. Re the Belles, its ironic comparing the FAs treatment of them compared to how they reacted to the recent ESL proposals! But hey ho onwards but not knowing if it's going to be upwards, downwards or sideways for Rovers next season. Regards to all and hope to have you all back to support our favourite team. I wasn't successful in trying to book my summer holiday in South Georgia. Apart from the fact it would have been Winter there!
Yes, thanks Donaldo for putting yourself through the pain of match previews and score keeping week after week. To do that over a whole season takes real commitment - so thank you!
Interesting article by Liam Hoden in the Free Press re what went wrong. AB was indeed dealt a poor hand.
Looking forward to finding out who our new Manager will be. Whoever it is has a huge amount of work to do very quickly and will clearly needcreal backing from the board.
Thanks; you are all very kind. I suppose it is therapeutic for those of us who have no one local to discuss the matches with to write down our thoughts. My style may sometimes discourage critical comment on the views I express, but I would not give it all up in the face of opposing views, so don’t hold back.
It is a truly satisfying to put up the previews, not a chore; if anything is a chore it’s battling with Excel, hence the delays in publishing results, but I can live with it.
The new Talent Identification Manager impressed me at his interview on the club website, well qualified, personable and intelligent, rather brighter than the typical manager I thought.
I read that Richie Wellens and the former successful Motherwell manager, Stephen Robinson, are two of the last men standing in the Manager appointment. I cannot say that Wellens was ever my favourite player, but he certainly put in 100% and there is no fixed template for success which he obviously achieved at Swindon. I seem to recall that he left there for the same reasons Fergie departed from us - insufficient ambition/financial backing, so has he lowered his sights?
After Robinson’s success at Motherwell, the team hit a bad patch and he resigned and it seemed that in the midst of the associated disappointment his health suffered, so he will be faced with constructing a recovery that he decided not to continue there. He was nevertheless well respected. His cv is on Linked-in. We have had 2 Northern Irishmen who have been successful here, could he be the third?
https://m.skybet.com/football/manager-specials/event/27451623
Stephen Robinson managed Oldham!
Donaldo, I'll add my thanks from the Left Coast - I think we agree on most things, except maybe some of our Youth Team talent.
I've no idea who I want as a manger, but some may think Wellens could be a repeat of Butts. However he did a good job with Swindon, and was part of SOD's team.
Nookie's link did not work until I turned by VPN to the UK. Could not believe the betting is so strong on Wellens!
Sometimes changing the VPN allows me to watch some BBC video, but live games require a TV Licence number!
So the announcement is on Monday with the successful candidate the Board’s first choice and terms and the selection of his assistant being finalised over the weekend.
BBC licences used to be free for the Over-75s Micky, but not any more! You have to sign in, but whether they check you out I don’t know.
Sorry, just read your last line and it sounds as though they do, although I don’t remember giving mine.
1/6 odds on Richie Wellens today
I see Tommy Rowe has been released. Might be a good choice to start with. Wellens is no AB. He's a reasonable record and hungry for success. Hopefully he and the boatd have agreed a strategy that suits him. He will have learned from his recent experiences.
Fans hoping for a different style of play under Wellens than playing out from the back will be dissapointed though.
The BBC are getting smart. I tried to watch the Cup Final, had everything set up through my VPN that I was in England, used my nephew's address, etc., but the Player would not play. In the "Problems page" it says if the BBC detects the use of a VPN, the Player will not work as they have to be sure you are in the UK. I do not know when they got that smart as I had watched some in the past, but nothing live some time.
I can’t remember a great deal from Wellens interviews as a player, but I do not remember him as being a natural communicator. However he has polished up his style and came over quite impressively in his first club website interview as manager; not as smooth as Fergie, but not blunt like McCann was sometimes. And Moore ... well, interviews were not his strong point, were they?
We now await his choice of assistant(s). I’m not sure Mr Gerrard would be top of my list.
Yes, Wellens came over quite well in the interview, and Liam Holden had some positive things to say in the DFP.
I'm intrigued by how he will handle recruitment as we do not have much of a squad at the moment - and how does he handle the Halliday and Wright situations? I did not realise until a few days after the final game how bad Joe's injury was.
It should be an interesting summer.
To all here on ja606, hope you all have a good summer and get away somewhere if you can and want to.
We have two weddings to attend and will use them as the basis for two mini-vacations. One is in Seattle, a city we have enjoyed in the past, and the other is at a winery near Salem in Oregon. The latter is for the lady who replaced Pauline when she retired from Pacific University. She is from India and so it seems some of her family will not be able to attend from India. The wedding has already been delayed once because of Covid so I'm sure it will go ahead, but sadly with some of her family missing.
Delighted to see Richie back as manager. He was a skillful, intelligent and committed player for us and part of the strongest midfield in the league. I know that some people are concerned by his relative lack of experience and nothing is guaranteed, but given the right backing I think he can build something good here and bring success. Looking forward to an interesting summer and the start of next season.
Stay safe everyone!
Yes hopefully back to proper football with fans present next season. Of the three final candidates he seemed the natural choice. Quite a tough prospect for him given the current state of the squad . But sometimes a clean sheet can be beneficial. I see Bursik is on loan to Lincoln today for their play off tie with Sunderland. Lincoln had a flying start to the season which seemed to be upset by playing us and unjustly losing! They got things back together and could be outsiders to win promotion. Though it would be one less localish derby for us. Hoping to be able to make my annual pilgrimage up North in the Autumn to watch Rovers play. Lets hooe its a Summer of content in more ways than one. Cheers!
