Summer clearance

I think with a new manager some of these players have a future with us. Guen is a snowflake but also a talent, the two often go together and need a manager who can handle it. Chambers is just coming into his prime and even with very limited game time has shown some good play. Should at leasat be a squad player who can cover a few positions (RB, CB, DM). Willock has some talent and is still young, done well at Newcastle under Bruce, could with a new manager for us as well. Arteta's style of play has killed him for us. Mavro my well be worth a squad place.

We are not going to have unlimited funds in the summer so I think with the remaining players being cleared out and whatever extra we have a decent CM or 2 is top priority and a RB is Bellerin goes, also a back up LB.

I seriously think half our squad are being restricted by Arteta and just need to be let loose to attack rather than Arteta's retain the ball at all costs tactics.

Depends on what you deem a decent fee, especially with the problematic wages. I joked about Roma, but I actually think Mourinho would be up for it. Apparently their new billionaire owners will be looking to invest.

Beyond that, it’s hard to think of many clubs that would give Arsenal the kind of money they’d want to let him go - there’ll be a lot more clubs that would want him than can afford him, I suspect.

Everybody needs to go from top to bottom

Luiz and Bellerin are the only "Must go regardless" players for me. Luiz has been a nightmare for 2 years and we never should have signed him in the first place. With Cedric, AMN and Chambers ALL better RB options than Bellerin he's just plain old surplus to requirement on top of being not that good and more interested in his fashion career post football anyway. As for the rest of the squad I'm not sure who's where in contract terms and how it effects things but I'd be reluctant to start shipping people out before letting a decent manager use the squad properly. It's about as harsh and unfair as it gets to judge players by performances this season.

They've been forced to play for a god awful, rude obnoxious jumped up little dictator of a manager they can't stand and don't want to play for. Then play crap defensive footy they've no wish at all to play and all whilst being handicapped and hamstrung in every way by said manager's arrogance and stupidity. With that much deadweight hanging around their next it's amazing they've got themselves to 9th. New manager (unless he has specific players in mind to bring in already) has to let this team loose proper and then judge who to keep/flog. There's enough in the squad to safely use Aug-Dec to do that.

We should build around 6 players:

Gabriel
Partey - giving him a pass due to injury and first year in the PL
Tierney
Saka
ESR
Martinelli

The rest. No thanks.

Not convinced by Gabriel at all, I think he has been poor for a while - Mari has clearly been better.

Not sure if I'm imagining things but I'm sure that Gabriel's performances early on were playing int the centre or on the right but since being put back in the team he's playing left. Could just be my stoner memory and him having made alot of strong covering runs at the time but I swear he's been best for us playing right.

I thought Gabriel always played left(?), maybe I’m wrong but my understanding was for that reason Mari and Gabriel cannot play together.

He might always have done and it's my memory playing tricks because he's made so many cover tackles on the right hand side of the pitch

Just checked some passed lineups and there's nothing wrong with my memory here. He was indeed playing centrally in the early season strong performances we saw from him, not on the left. It's when Arteta was still using Tierney as a LCB so Gabriel was central and Holding went RCB

Yup, you're right, he's playing Mari and Gabriel tonight (!) with Gabriel on the right.
Playing one side or the other is very important because when the decision making/movement is really fast you have to rely to some extent on instinct.

If Gabriel's drop in form was due to being moved to the left then I don't understand why this was continued or why Mari and Gabriel as centre backs together wasn't given a decent run before ?

Oh, hold on, Holding is playing as well - I'm not sure what system he will play...
