And STILL they'll be desperately trying to allow as much international travel as possible with no quarantine while keeping as much as possible locked down domestically because it's the Brazil variant or it's the India variant or it's the fvcking Algarve variant. It's fvcking nuts. Bloody Australians have been partying it up all year and we just don't learn.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And this will account for the Kent variant how?

I wasn't happy when I never left level 3 last year whilst Edinburgh and midlothian was pretty much open for all. If I was in Glasgow I'd probably be even more fuming now.

It's an absolute disgrace

I agreed with and followed the restrictions but now its a shambles. There is nothing about the stats now that would justify going into a lockdown never mind staying in one
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I just wonder how much data would have changed in a week since the election and how much its isolated to Glasgow and the West.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And how much it will change in the next week that will allow opening then? How can any business plan when they are given a fairly hard and fast date to have it taken away with less than an hours notice in a working week? And then believe it’ll be ok in 7 days time?

Utter madness.

It’s a never ending cycle. Just change the rules of the game is all.

Did I mention the Kent variant?

But since you asked, if it wasn't obvious enough already, the Kent variant evolved from a previous strain which was, surprisingly enough, brought in by international travel.

Agreed. That's my point exactly.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that we're becoming an over protective mother state. I get we needed to make sacrifices and we did all change our ways.

We're seeing threats and multiplying them by worst case scenarios and using this as basis to close. It's become bonkers

With not one single model or projection ever reaching mid case and far less worse case scenarios.

vaccinations are the end game, we have literally done all we can in the general public.

the issues are where they have always been, with looking outward and going "indias a bit messy, hope that doesnt come here"

then allowing a hunner flights a week in, its been 15 months of that exact same mistake. its fvcking moronic quite frankly.

In hindsight we could and should have closed borders to certain countries earlier. Like a leak, water will find a way through and we are an “open” country

We could level the same accusation against most of the world. We are now where we are and whilst I rail against these restrictions I’d be far more understanding if they were on consistent message and made sense.

So in this conversation you're now just having with yourself are you honestly trying to convince yourself that international travel isn't a major contributor to the spread of the virus?

In your own words I never said it wasn’t. Pretty obvious bearing in mind every case or variant on the planet started from Wuhan isn’t it?

Care to let us all know from which country the Kent variant “obviously” came from?

I’ll leave you to it. I don’t have enough time, far less the inclination to argue a moot point with someone who sees my user name and uses just that to barge in trying and failing in equal measure to argue a point and be again proved wrong.

So use the free space and tell us where the Kent variant “obviously” came from. Then use the extra time while I get some sleep to point out where I said international travel wasn’t a factor.

Have fun.

I'm not sure variants can be stopped simply by halting international travel. You can make it less likely but I'm not an immunologist etc can confirm that would eliminate the risk of a variant or even multiple variants arising on anybodys shores.

You're the one who replied to me first here... With a comment about the Kent variant completely irrelevant to the point I was making. And you're saying I saw your username and came in looking to argue?

Again, since you asked, from memory, the best theories seemed to be that the Kent variant underwent numerous mutations within an immunosuppressed person before making the leap and spreading, and it was *probably* evolved from the Italian variant or a derivative thereof. But again, completely irrelevant to the point I was making, as you're well aware.
