Why should developing young players like Mount,James et al be expected to already emulate great Chelsea players who were then at the peak of their abilities?

It is worth mentioning that 8/11 cup finals thing that that includes community shield finals. However even taking them out we have still lost 62% of finals in that time frame. Not great, especially considering our reputation/record prior to that

It is un-Chelsea like that stat for sure. Even before 2003, since I started supporting Chelsea (around 96-97) we did used to win finals. The only one I can remember us losing in that 5-6 years window was vs. Arsenal (the Parlour worldie goal one), and we won at least three off the top of my head + that Super Cup vs. Madrid.

Losing S-F yes, bucketloads of them (again even before 2003), but not finals

The Hazard era was essentially “The Underachievers” though in every way, shape or form. From the board throwing away gems like De Bruyne, Salah and Lukaku to our team’s league form of finishing 1st to 10th to 1st to 5th. Some could say that sums up Hazard, but I believe we failed to make the most out of Hazard’s potential rather than the Hazard failing to make the most out of his.

I like to refer to that as the "boom & bust" era, or the bipolar era if I'm in a cynical mood

Was an era categorized by us trying to correct past mistakes and in-turn creating new problems, certainly at board level. Giving managers more control, but giving the wrong ones that control. Balancing the books, but selling generational talents by doing so. Heavy emphasis on the development, but picking managers who wouldn't utilize it. I could go on & on here.

Having Benitez be the first proper managerial appointment on that era is so fitting in hindsight as well.

Right guy for so many reasons on an analytical level given the circumstances at the time for the present & future. Just the small issue that next to no Chelsea fans were gunna accept him

Are you really counting the charity shield?
