Quite. As well as a belief that the free market will sort it all out

Wages suppressed but taxes being hiked up, why couldn’t the Tories fund social care with all the money they gave to their cronies during the pandemic?

Everyone forgets council tax when talking about the Tories too.

Think it's gone up around 26% here in the last three years.

So will the planned removal of CAP payments. That has the potential to double the cost of food over the 5 year phasing.

But yeah, when they took out the agricultural minimum wage (£1 higher than minimum wage) loads left the industry, we no longer get seasonal migrant European workers, or students travelling and looking to earn some cash. As I posted on another thread, what would you rather do? Earn £8.91 in the most dangerous Industry in the country, with the basic pension contributions dictated by government, or earn £12.50 an hour as a postie, with our combined 18% pensions (6% employee, 12% Employer)

On top of that, reports are yesterday that food exports have dropped £2bn thanks to Brexit. So if food producers struggle, they will instantly try to slash their costs at the farm gate.

I've no inherant issue in paying a bit more to fund social care but I'd like to see HMRC properly to chase down the tax avoiders, the big boy companies that contribute next to nothing into this country's coffers whilst reaping the benefits of its infrastructure, healthcare and state educated workforce forced into paying their share and I'd like to know where the £350m a week that was advertised on the side of a bus is.

*HMRC properly funded

Wait a moment, why aren't we funding social care from the money we sent to the EU rather than a rise in national insurance?

There was a bus...

All of this.

It's believed there's about 50bn a year of tax avoidance in the UK,

There is trillions of untaxed wealth offshore, if they were taxed at the lower band of 20% on the Interest, it's believed we would get circa 150bn per annum.

Raising the corporation tax rate to the G20 average would net circa £20bn a year.

There is no appetite for any of these measures though, it's far easier to tax the plebs, who already contribute disproportionately more of their wealth.

Connecticut A.G. ain't happy says they're manipulating the bankruptcy laws. Apparently criminal charges could still come. Yeah riiiight. Civil suits are notoriously more difficult to prove than civil suits.
NY A.G. says yes but all their wrongdoing will be documented.
Sacklers still deny any involvement.
