cutrone was scoring regularly for Milan prior to us signing him and I was legit excited about it

Yeah the Cutrone one was understandable. Young player who was scoring goals with lots of potential.

The Willian Jose one was obviously a panic buy though.

panic buy I can get on board with, but his record was pretty decent and his size/frame certainly fit the Nuno MO

I don't think we would have signed Willian Jose in a normal off season, even with an injury to Jimenez. He was signed because he was the only player available at the time on a loan contract, with a hope that it would come off.

Due diligence wasn't followed at any point with that signing or the circumstances leading up to it which left us in a panic buying position.

we'd have been better in my opinion recalling Mir

We would have been better off playing someone off this board.

My point was that no matter how good his record, reputation, only player available, you have to see someone in the flesh.
One look and you could see how slow he is and he had little ball control.
Don't blame the guy in any way, but someone gave him the nod and signed the loan cheque.

As a famous manager once, said:=

"Players may look good on paper, but we play on grass."

Wolves are working to complete the appointment of Bruno Lage as new manager. Talks opened last week and agreement now getting closer - last details then here we go expected soon. Wolf faceOrange circleBlack circle

Sergio Conceiçao was not a serious option - he’s now in Napoli list as Gattuso replacement

Starting to look like Lage is going to be our new boss if Romano is posting this

I think Lage was already lined up before the announcement.

Yep, weren't we linked a few months back as well?

I am on board with it, would say it is a little on the riskier side but I also don't think it would ever be a disaster and I really don't think relegation is a fear unless Fosun pull the plug regardless of the manager.

Contradicting the above posts.

Top-Fox who first said on the Mix over a month ago that Nuno was leaving in the summer has just posted that Lage was the first of four guys being interviewed and sounds like Rafa may be another.

What do people make of Rafa Benitez?

Pretty negative isn't he? Didn't really pay any attention to his time at Newcastle.

rafa is a safe pair of hands, did play nice footy at the scouse but how long ago was that?

not sure the style would be any better than Nuno's

Personally I think Lage is pretty much nailed on. They are just assessing other options before deciding. Whoever the others being interviewed are will have to impress a lot to get the gig.

I think Benitez was pretty negative at Newcastle. He does have a good track record before that, but very much seems like yesterday's man these days. Probably a decent bridging appointment for a big club, but not one for a rebuild at an emerging club.

Benitez is a very negative manager and in my opinion always comes across as disengenuous when he talks. Always seems to be at odds with his club owners and everything seems to be someone else’s fault not his

Nuno virtually out of the running now for the Spurs job according to the bookies who are usually a decent guide. Favourite for that gig now is Martinez although it’s pretty open betting so even the bookies are unsure

As for Wolves Fonseca is now second favourite after not getting the fiorentina job after all, Gattuso got that
Lage meanwhile looks like a tasty bet at 1/9 and might be worth 50p

Nuno won’t be staying in England to manage anybody.

At those odds it’s ridiculous to place a bet of just 50p!

Better return than putting the money in the bank

One other slight concern I have with Lage is that wolves and Mendes are kind of doing him a favour if they bring him in, taking a punt on someone with so little experience and who's been out of work so long there's concern he'd struggle to get a visa... Which means he's not in any position to dictate terms, ask for the money required, x new signings etc, the standard of backroom staff. He'll have to take what he's given. Whereas the fans can really benefit from the club actually having to really pursue someone who is in demand because they're going to be able to insist on having proper backing.

Nuno could be a good bet for the Porto job.
