Will be interesting to see Samuel Chukwueze tomorrow, if he's fit. Supposed to be a bit good and someone we've looked at previously.

Chuckwueze? That’s a funny name, I’d have called him Bull frog.

I wonder who thought this was worth one star, and why

Dazza / Freedom, interesting conversation, to which I'm replying way too late as usual.

I think Dazza is right about the conundrum the big clubs face. One thing that struck me is how we're seeing a tier of clubs that are slightly smaller than the European powerhouses, who seem to be occupying a sweet spot where they are small enough that they can afford to bring in talented young players and give them time to develop, but not so far behind the superclubs that they can't hope to compete with them. The examples that spring to mind are Dortmund (a huge club of course, but nowhere near being able to compete with Bayern financially) and Leicester.

Money usually wins in the end, of course. And as the industry gets more and more professionalised, with more metrics measured and crunched, I suppose it will be more and more possible to leverage financial advantage to reduce the risks in investment.

I think in some ways it’s the same as it ever was, but the figures have just massively increased. Though the glass ceiling of those lower tier clubs it that much harder to break through due to so much wealth being condensed in so few hands.

But what I mean by it being the same is that there’s always been those lower tier clubs that have been run well, but knew their place in the food chain. There always will be.

A think a big difference is that in England it’s probably as hard to sign players from lower down as it ever has been. The big clubs have to commit to such ridiculous fees to get these players off their clubs.

A lot of the biggest clubs have been trying to sign up a lot of younger talented players before their price blows up as a result of this.

But for many players it’s just not quite the same trying to develop at a big club. And rapid progression is facking hard to foresee - wherever they’re playing.

Good points. And we're increasingly seeing well managed young players going to incubator clubs like Dortmund rather than immediately going to the highest bidder.

Great points all. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how the transfers policies change over time.

I'm still for cutting out the "incubator" clubs (I like that term. we're gonna get this coined) though. Numerous of Dortmund players have flopped outside of that system. It's not only Dortmund, it's happening to other German clubs too. Hence, why I've put that disclaimer on the two Bayer Leverkusen wingers.

Ironically, I think Real Madrid was the first to start utilizing this with the current generation of players after heavy investments into the youth players. Take, Vinicius, Rodrygo, etc all come to mind

Eh it's fine. I'm just curious to see this article down the road to see how many turned out to be good.

Eduardo Camavinga: £70m. A potential generational talent. Could be worth a gamble but does not fit the midfield enforcer type.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Camavinga wants out with 1 year left on the deal. PSG is quoted £86m but I'm betting that Rennes will probably sell him for significantly less to non-French clubs. I hope we take a look at this especially if Pogba goes.

Sancho - no 1 target.

Everything else can wait

Freedom, and yet you could argue it’s been a failed transfer policy given the overall outlay of those players hasn’t seen much on the pitch. And that’s because of the reasons I mentioned earlier with regard to developing young talent at the biggest clubs. Madrid have had history with this as well.

You need to get a balance. It’s easy to say you are cutting out the middle man, but we have the benefit of hindsight to know these players have become very good. And it ignores all the failures, from clubs dotted all around Europe, and the rapid progression of these particular players.

It’s not like we haven’t tried to invest in young players and develop them into top players anyway. It just hasn’t worked out. Look at Martial, Depay, Zaha and Shaw. Big investments and it’s only Shaw that has really performed at the level of a United player. And it took years to get there.

We could have not signed these guys and actually be looking at all of them now in the market because they’ve had the benefit of playing at a lower level first. Sometimes it is just worth a player developing elsewhere.

Great points Scott. I think after the Heaton signing, we will see how the recruitment strategy will play out this summer. I think we will have more money than expected as the CL money will be the downpayment to expanding the credit line.

I think after yesterday's game, it seems like we need more than 3 signings or not have anyone leave this summer except GKs.

Jules Kounde: £56m-£60m. According to mundodeportivo, Sevilla have set a starting price of €65m to €70m, just below his release clause of €80m.

In all seriousness, yeah we should be good with Varane.

Kounde is going for €30m-€35m + a defender (say around €25m tops).

Way short of what Sevilla said before the Euros
