Carabao Cup Final
Location: Wembley
Crowd: - 88, 674
Almost a full house at Wembley to watch the first final of the season, as league leaders take on 4th placed Arsenal in what should be an intriguing final!
Arsenal start quickly, shifting th ball down their right hand side, Pereira and Pepe linking well to get passed Mendy, as Bastoni came out, Pepe managed to fire in a cross, but was just too high for Aubameyang. Neuer rolled it out to varane but he got his feet in a tangle and Maddison pounced, he played in Aubameyang quickly and he powered it passed the goalkeeper to make it 1-0, neuer disgusted with Varane it seems!
GOAL! Aubameyang 10 (Maddison)
Arsenal 1 - 0 Leicester
Leicester, controlled the ball well after the early set back and came close on a couple of occasions, unfortunately Ederson was in good form. Arsenal countered well, after Maguire took the ball from Dybala, he played wide left to Sandro, who sped down the line, with Isco cutting inside he played him in, however, Rodri came in with a crunching tackle and the ball landed at B.Silva's feet, he played round Koke and made his way to the danger area, a quick one-two with Dybala he sliced his way through the defence and rounded Ederson to slot home the equaliser!
GOAL! B.Silva, 37 (Dybala)
Arsenal 1 - 1 Leicester
The game became a bit cagey, and the teams played out the half with not much to report
Half Time
Arsenal 1 - 1 Leicester
Second half
A bit of a slower start with Leicester play possession football waiting for that all important time to slip in the forwards, however with Akanji and Maguire marshalling the Arsenal defence very well, that moment wasn't coming quickly. They were playing neat football, but the Arsenal players were not giving them any time or space to create anything for Lautaro or Dybala.
Arsenal came close on the break, with Mendy high up the field he lost the ball to Pereira, he galloped down the line and again for the second time, he and Pepe were up against Bastoni, Bastoni did well to push them wide, but a quick cross in from Pepe, was met by Aubameyanf, his header smashed off the crossbar, but Maddison reacted very quickly and poked it home to put Arsenal ahead yet again
GOAL! Maddison, 58 (Aubameyang)
Arsenal Sub: - Torreira for Koke 60 Mins
This sparked life itno Leicester and they pushed men forward and were firing at the Arsenal goal, between Ederson, Maguire and the post however the goal didn't come
Leicester Sub: Dembele for Bastoni
Arsenal Sub: Brandt for Isco
Leicester revert back to 4231 by the looks of it as Brandt is just a straight swap, Leciester still pushing, Magurie and akanji, pushing their luck at times to clear the ball any way they can
Leicester Sub: Jesus for Dybala
Arsenal Sub: Vardy for Aubameyang
The first real chanmce for Jesus came not long after he came on, he breezed passed Akanji, but was so eager to stamp his authority he blasted high and wide. Ederson's kick was taken by the wind, Laporte didn't do himself any favours by letting the ball bounce, as it went over him Vardy was on it like a rash, however, Neuer was just as quick as he came out to gather the ball at the strikers feet, with time running out he rolled out to Carvajal, he played it quickly to B.Silva, he turned Doucoure, played in Jesus, he glided passed Akanji and this time made no mistake and that was the equaliser late on
GOAL! G.Jesus, 86 (B.Silva)
Arsenal dejected, Leicester going ballistic, however more drama at Wembley! Its gone to VAR
Was G.Jesus offside?? Its very minimal...
NO he wasn't!! The goal stands as the blue half of Wembley erupts!
2-2 going into the final stages of the game, both teams relucatant to push forward and play out the final few minutes
The ref blows his whistle...extra time it is
With no subs made its how we are, Arsenal start on the front foot, but a great tackle on Vardy by Laporte stopping the threat and possibly going in front again, Arsenal really were pushing Leicester back, the league leaders not used to this kind of game, they were panicking a bit and playing a lot of loose passes to one another however Arsenal couldn't take advantage and the first half of ET comes to an end, score remains 2-2
Rof must have said something to his team, as he looks raging, the lads looked a bit sheepish..oh they come out very quickly, Sliva going close, Arsenal need to be careful, they cannot play for penalites at this stage..Leicester really pushing on, Akanji looks knackered as he tries to keep Jesus at bay, he did well there though marshalling the ball out for a corner, which comes to nothing as Ederson gathers well, the Arsenal players are on their last legs and really fighting this now as Leicetser seem rejuvenated by Rofs team talk, with time running out maybe time for one last push, as Carvajal gathers form Neuer, he drives forward again using B.Silva, this time he plays it wide to Dembele, he skips passed Pereira and drills it into the danger area low and hard, Lautaro looks like he just has to tap it in, and oh, Akanji pulls him back as he was away to fire home....ITS A PENALTY!, it did look like he was going to score anyway, but that is lazy from Akanji, who up until now was having a terrific game...
G.Jesus takes responsibility for the penaly
He looks down the middle of the goal
The ref blows his whistle
Jesus begins his run up
SCORES!!!!right into the corner, Ederson goes the right way but just couldn't get his hands to it, Leicester players run into the crowd, the fans go beserk, Rof tellin them to get back quickly, there is still 2 mins to go!!
GOAL! G.Jesus 118 (Pen)
Arsenal quickly push men forward, this is the last chance, Brandt take to the corner, he plays it off Carvajal and gets his team a corner
Jet pushes Ederson up , why not it the last throw if the dice
Maddison takes the corner and its Ederson!, He leaps so high, he gets his head on it, oh my days, its on target
I guess that's why he is still one of the best in the World, Neuer, htf did he get that , he tips it over the bar, its another corner
Maddison takes, tjhis time Varane gets to it first, he heads it clear, the final whistle goes, The Arsenal players are on their knees as they watch Leicester players run to the delirious support
A great game of football, a fantastic final, Jet and his Arsenal boys gave it their all, just not to be unfortunately!
Arsenal 2 - 3 Leicester City (AET)
Aubameyang 10 (Maddison) (Arsenal)
B.Silva, 37 (Dybala) (Leicester)
Maddison, 58 (Aubameyang) (Arsenal)
G.Jesus, 86 (B.Silva)
G.Jesus 118 (Pen)
