Scotland's National Clinical director has appeared to cast doubt on whether a fan zone will be set up in Glasgow for the football European Championships, saying the decision "still has to happen".

Glasgow City Council announced last month it would hold the fan zone event at Glasgow Green from June 11, which would allow 3,000 people to gather together per day.

Fans will be able to watch the Scotland men’s team play in their first major tournament since the World Cup in France in 1998.

However, Professor Jason Leitch told Radio 4's Today programme that the final decision on the fanzone had yet to be made, and that one area of concern was the inclusion of a beer garden in the plans.

Hold on, thought it was supposed to be 6000?

Don’t, they always aspired to a Victorian masterpiece. Or tanning one at least.

A few weeks ago, Lex asked a legitimate question as to why so many Rangers supporters had a dislike for Catholics. At the time I thought that too narrow a field as many people around the world have a strrong dislike of any organised religion and are not necessarily Rangers supporters. Anyway the following encapsulates why I have a strong disdain for this particular religion, as opposed to the people who (blindly imo) follow it.

I hope you are aware that the Anglican, Methodist, United, and Presbyterian churches were all involved in the residential school debacle.
Which is why I don't belong to any sect. All the same.

I can’t believe the attempted criticism of a religion that encourages its female followers to take it up the ronson.

Reports in today’s Sunday Times say a heated argument took place between Shapps and Hancock + Gove regarding setting the green and amber countries. Shapps is reported to have wanted to stick to the science and data (Portugal to stay green, plus Malta, Balearics and Canaries to move to green) Hancock and Gove argued against and won. So the political lies of sticking to the science and data continues.

I believe they’re all sticking to the science. Just choosing different bits. Which is why politicians should not be making such decisions though we should be careful what we wish for if, for example, Bauld had her way. Scientists. Perfectly able to do it if given clear outcome criteria but the politicos couldn’t agree on that either.

Ha, right on cue! I assume they’ve spent the money setting it up already?

ONE of Scotland’s leading public health experts has said she is “worried” about the Covid risks of the Euro 2020 fanzone in Glasgow, especially without mandatory testing.

Professor Linda Bauld warned that, despite lots of outdoor seating, “alcohol inhibition” and fans' excitement, meant there would inevitably be close contact, risking coronavirus spread.

National clinical director Jason Leith said on Saturday that SNP ministers had yet to decide whether to allow the sell-out fanzones to start at Glasgow Green from Friday.

The Scottish Government, which has so far ruled out mandatory Covid testing for ticketholders, is due to make a statement on Tuesday.

The current plan is for up to 3000 people in afternoon sessions and 3000 in the evenings to watch Euro 2020 games on big screens, subject to social distancing.

However Prof Bauld, chair of public health at Edinburgh University, said the presence of booze and the nature of the event meant social distancing would break down.

She told BBC Scotland’s Sunday Show: “I’m worried.

"I completely understand the importance of the Euros. Let’s face it, everybody wants to celebrate. This is a fantastic opportunity for Scotland.

“Most of this event is outdoors, most of it is seated, I’ve had a good look at the website and the details, and you can see that it would be managed.

“But the reason the beer garden is a concern is obviously alcohol inhibition.

“If there’s lots of watching matches, people are cheering and hugging and embracing. Even if they’re outside, there are risks.”

She said the fanzone ought to copy the Events Research Programme in England, where thousands of people were able to attend music and sporting events, but only if could provide a negative Covid test.

She said: “So my personal view, I would have appreciated if it might have been run a bit like the Events Research Programme.

“You remember the festival in England in Liverpool, where people had to demonstrate a negative test before they went in. But it doesn’t sound like that is being set up.

“So the decision will be taken this week, but it is not without its risks, and that is absolutely the case.”

The Scottish licensed trade has also warned the fanzone could lead to a surge in virus cases, leading to a return to tougher lockdown restrictions, hammering businesses.

Ms Sturgeon was asked last week if it she might exclude alcohol from the fanzone and failed to give a direct answer, suggesting the option is under consideration.

They really are making a fwcking pig’s ear of this to the point I can’t understand why anyone with any level of self appreciation and sanity would genuinely bother with going. Just what is the point? Spending 5 hours minimum in a stadium distanced from anyone else and no food or drink. Bloody masochism at the least. Just who the fwck do they think we are?

Well that’s me binned using my ticket for the Czech game. I’ll see if one of my boys are daft enough to want it.

This is all about nothing more than control now. The science if inconvenient is being ignored or “qualified” to suit. We are in a place where a very small number of politicians and so called “experts” define our very level of how we live on a daily basis. This will continue as I’ve always said.

Well first of all the paper referred to says £18m and secondly it’s the Sun.

I’ll wait until it happens.

My opinion is he hasn’t bothered his rse for over a year and it showed. A better club would have managed him differently of course; but sold him otherwise.

I'll get pashed and enjoy the fan zone for the game. My brother is 50/50 right now due to a twaat in his work so if he can't make it come with us. You'll know half the table
