club just announced it.

thats that then, time to back him.

105 days only for Kennedy and strachan to start pre season.

not Ange fault at all, but that itself shows the incompetence at board room level.

12 month rolling contract ..... how do they work again??

I do get how they might be seen to benefit the club but a 12 month contract is hardly a show of faith.

Think the press will attempt to undermine him from day 1? He's gonna be asked about being sloppy seconds for sure. His last result will not help even though there are mitigating peculiarities to it. Sounds like he's up for a fight like most Aussies so he'll either put them in their place or it will be enjoyable sport for bears.

Board led up the aisle by Howe then ditched at the altar. Nobody comes out smelling of roses but lessons hopefully learnt? Trust nobody in football a good mantra.

Decent enough record but never come close to managing a club with our pressures etc.

Will obviously back him but no idea if he's going to be able to step up to the job, and the fact he's been given sod all time to rebuild before preseason is a damning indictment of the board/club.

Hard enough to hit the ground running without having one hand tied behind your back.

it depends hamish

it allows you an early get out without compensation if it isnt working out.

or u could see its not working out but keep the manager on anyway because he is your pal and a cup final v hearts for "his treble" is more important to you than 10 in a row.

you can then keep him on for longer when its clearly not working, but when u eventually tell him to go the benefits are minimum pay off.

'mitigating peculiarities'

That sounds an interesting new phrase to try and soften the blow of a shock cup defeat.

We could have done with some of your wordsmithing last season.....

It only really works in celtics failure (versus say a 4 year deal) if he isnt a success.

If he is a roaring success and bigger clubs come knocking then I guess compensation would be lower?

I get why they would do it but it is kind of setting the guy up for failure and a quick, easy and cheap exit.

And he has come all this way.....

-----

think we have come to realise by now that they won't be.

the worst thing about the howe deal was them saying Eddie didnt want to start till summer, but how did that stop him signing?

See if the board came out and said "we want eddie but he won't commit till summer and we cant wait that long right now" then i would have been on board with that.

it took 2 weeks to then get Ange, it always takes weeks, its never quick and now he can't meet the team due to restrictions, we should take that into account and push the process through quickly.

Back the man, sack the board.

I hope someone saves this post and rams it back down my throat but I don't expect him to last the season, I have zero faith in this appointment, and the board need fvcked out the nearest window and all.

Fair shout, mate. I'll be the first to say I don't understand Japanese football so I don't fully get the significance. They were 4th tier and as I read it, keep winning their league but refuse to drop their works name so don't take the promotion. There was rumour they were professional in all but accreditation with them employed by Honda as workers but really training and playing full time? I don't get the nuances but the gist was they were a much higher level team really? Japan is a strange place and culture. MAybe you know different?

It's official...Big Ange in the door

If I was a Celtic fan, I'd be massively underwhelmed with that appointment

Not going to write the guy off by any means, could turn out to be a great appointment for all I know

Can't say I'm all that worried at the moment though.....folk comparing him to Wim Jansen and Dr Jo are clutching at straws imo

Jansen played in World Cup finals, the guy was a European Cup winner, he knew all about pressures at the top of the game

Dr Jo was the assistant when Czechoslovakia won the Euros, he'd managed teams like Sporting, Aston Villa and Fenerbahce before he came to Celtic

No offence to Ange.....but his CV doesn't come close to what these guys had achieved as players/managers before taking the Celtic job

So as said, massively underwhelming appointment for you guys, compounded by the length of time it took to get someone, anyone in the door

Welcome Ange, as ever you will get my backing and I won't be writing you off early doors or because you agreed a rolling contract or indeed because your previous side just lost a cup tie.

Hope he does well and entertains us on the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the question marks are more because most folk hadnt ever heard of him and he has zero experience of the European game.

Plus he has to recruit a significant number of players in a short time from a market he has ne experience of and he has no head of recruitment or DoF to support him.

Most people are intrigued and looking forward to see how it pans out.

I am not labelling him a dud. Just a very big risk.

maybe he will use the markets he does know though?

i don't blame him, he has my backing.

i'm not shocked to see kennedy and strachan stay, again the difficulties in sentiment.

Board room shake up required imo.

I believe the teams he has played in or managed have more winners medals than Mr let's go?

Crazy appointment, and has disaster written all over it.

If there was a structure in place, it might have given some hope, but you just can’t see how it can work out.

Most of our managers have worked under a rolling contract, and if he’s any good that can be changed to a longer term deal. He’s on a rolling contract to protect the club for compensation-his contract is the least of our concerns right now.
