Good change. It was very hard to judge the most miniscule of calls with the naked eye and when they are calling decisions because of "an armpit", then we know there is no way they can accurately judge that without the use of technology (like goalline technology) to judge that.

I always wondered if they could implement hawk eye into the VAR offside calls decisions, I think they would take away a lot of the frustrations.

I doubt this will solve the issue. The cretins in the VAR studio will just start using the edge of the lines instead. The fact the lines overlap 50% or so therefore won't make a difference as you'll still have a portion of the blue line that is ahead of the red line.

I still think the best solution is just to use playe's feet. You'll still have toes being offside but I can accept that as it's definitively offside.

It's the squiggly diagonal lines drawn from shoulders that is the most farcical aspect of the current system.

remembe rthat when a var guy is desperate he will resort to anyhting.

Mane elbow was used to ensure he was off. I've seen them place the line in the middle of a defenders foot to try move it up field that bit more.

They are lousy cheats and pedantic as hell.

I agree with neo, someone will find a way to back their mates or do a team down by manipulating the thing more. the no straight, completely phoney lines that are supposely accurate are a complete joke.

It should be crystal clear. if there's any margin for error at all the onfield decision stands not a pedantic debate via VAR.

In fact i would go to a review situation where the tem affected appleas the on field decisn and then the rulers come out as they simply are not clear and obvious errors being looked at any more with current var.

the worst thing is some stadiums have been shown up for not having adequate camera positions and when the angles are oblique this 1mm accuracy rubbish is absolutely for the birds.

After the shambles that the VAR implementation has been I wanted it gone, then I sat watching a few hours of "classic Premier League" matches. Seeing the bigger mess the refs made on their own was even more infuriating, so I'm all for this now!

A sensible move.

Have to take issue with Collina's point at the end though. If it is marginal then go with the on field decision - referees are changing their on field decisions because of VAR. Why can't they just do a referee and VAR official have a chat (which we can all hear) and decide together with the on field ref having the last call!

Said it a million times over it should be on an appeal basis only. Get one incorrect challenge a game and it's at the captain's discretion to use it.

They will change the handball rule at the euros. Accidental handball in the build up to a goal will not be penalised.

Surely manager's call who is watching the game not a guy caught up in the flow of the game.

This.

Some people have very short memories.

And then you use it on a subjective decision, but the ref decides that his initial call was correct (but debateable) and you lose your challenge.

You then concede a clearly offside goal and it can't be rectified because you.lpst your appeal.

The only purpose of this is to be able to blame the victim team for not using their appeal properly. It does very little to ensure that decisions are correct.
