Chambers seems an accurate comparison, stylistically. Like Holding, severe injuries have prevented him from reaching his potential. Both Rob and Calum were never world class, or special, talents but we sometimes forget that both are the kinds of players you round a squad out with.
The price we'd pay for Ben White (I'm mostly seeing 40m) would make him an undisputed starting XI player, at least in regards to the club's plans. You'd have to imagine that the club believes he can be the real deal for us. Like I say, I have not watched him in any capacity, so I could not comment on his talent.
A lot of teams have been interested in Ben White. just Brighton have been asking way to much money for him.
The prem is becoming ridiculous. Paying 30-40M for championship/ prem relegation teams.
Wouldn't happen in any other league

Remember when Liverpool signed a championship/relegated team Newcastle and he went on to be too midfielder, winning CL and PL?
Calm your tiits down

If Chambers was playing for Brighton or similar type of teams he would be in the England line up and the press would be hyping him up also because he fits a certain demographic.
It's because he plays for arsenal, he is disregarded

If Chambers was fit and playing regularly, he'd be in contention. The fact is he's injury prone and only has a dozen or appearances this season.

It is the way of things.
Chambers is a good player with a surprisingly high level of technical ability. He has clearly been hindered by almost perma-injury and is likely to never be anything better than a solid squad option. His attacking contributions from right back this season have consistently caught opposing players by surprise. I remember when we signed him it was after watching him for a very long time in an era where our scouting team usually got it right on long-term scouting projects.
I quite like him, and he is versatile - however I don’t think he’s been the most impressive CB at Brighton this season. That’s been Webster.

How would you describe his play? The prerequisite of an Arteta Centre Back would be intelligence and ability in passing play, but how is his defensive game? Is he a front foot defender, looking to nick the ball, or is he a more laconic defender? I know you're a Tottenham fan, but the classic examples of the two differing types would be Koscielny and Mertesacker.
Ben White was the pre-tournament favourite to be the next big money flop signing after having a half decent tournament for England.
Amazing that all it takes to be worth £50m these days is a cap for England in a friendly,
His weakness is lack of pace. He struggled last season against Rashford. He is a good ball playing CB.
For me the benchmark of a center back is Virgil who can play 1v1 when he has to cover for the fullback.
A good example was last season in the Arsenal v Liverpool game when Gabriel was isolated in a 1v1 against Salah and he scored.
Classic Arsenal cheeky nandos wet wipe CB signing
Pep can afford to be patient with someone like Foden because he already had half a dozen top class players in his position. Arsenal don’t have that luxury anywhere on the pitch.
I really don’t get what’s happened with Saliba. It seems Arteta is the only person in football who doesn’t rate him.
I don't disagree Skins, but that kind of short terminism can come back to bite you. Imagine if, for argument's sake, we had an injury free Wilshere still playing for us.
I think Arteta doesn't rate Saliba on a personal level. I think he sees him as part of the same mindset as the likes of Guendouzi and Özil, which he has tried hard to remove from the club.
We loved him at Leeds but I always felt he got bullied by big strikers at times.
No doubt we would have bought him for £20m but Brighton wanted much more. As it happens Llorente seems a better buy.
£40m is a snip for an England international
Hes not worth £50m more like £20m
Totally unnecessary signing. Dont want him anywhere near Arsenal
Absolute car crash of a club if this is true. We had the 3rd best defence last season in the PL.
Our issues stem from MF onwards.
The only player from Brighton we should be looking at is Bissouma.
Bissouma plus an AM would be a good transfer window. Obviously is Xhaka leaves he needs to be replaced (Neves).

Yeah but imagine if we’d been “patient” with Saka and drip fed him games or loan spells up to now. We wouldn’t know the player we have on our hands (and we’d probably have been relegated lol). It needs to be managed on a case by case basis. Some kids like Rooney or Cesc are more than ready by 17-18.
Arteta is playing a dangerous game only picking players he “likes” (for want of a better word) on a personal level. Eventually the manager becomes the easier option to get rid of.
