I don't think Southgate still knows who his best team is apart from Kane, Pickford and Trippier.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither does anyone else. You can read ten different pundits and get ten different teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
how many of them would play 7 defensive players vs croatia though a team as robb said in poor form and divided? rely on set pieces and the counter.

It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't ignoring obvious stuff that you need to do like starting Grealish.
Don’t mind trippier starting, but what manager drops the one player who has had a rest and looked like the only player capable of doing a thing on the ball during preparations?
Grealish, for me, is our best attacking midfielder/ forward (not including ST in that).
FA File Boy would never leave both Sterling or Rashford out. One at a push and that must've really hurt him. Hopefully Foden and Kane will provide the spark because our midfield and defence are woeful. The hope that Slabhead is fit to start at some point in the next few games with all his failings is a scary one.

Maguire too tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And Pickford/ trippier are questionable.
I’m a bit of a fan boy, but Grealish should be one of the first names on that team sheet.
Looks like he’s gone for the “team players” in Mount and Foden instead.
Sterling has been god awful all season.
Agree about Grealish.
But I think both Foden and Mount are fair picks.
He wants pace, so had to leave one of those three out if he wants Phillips's drive.
Playing Trippier at LB sounds strange. Shaw and Chilwell are arguably top 5 LB’s in the world right now.
Glad Rashford isn’t playing. The lad needs a break.
Also this team has an array of attacking talent and you want to give the job to a past it Jose?
team in op is correct.
trippier LB, grealish on the bench.
walkers a liability in def, recovery pace is all he has. him and tripper were awful vs croatia last time out. Perisic destroyed them both but ofc everyone just rmeembers trippier free kick goal or something.

No Sancho on the bench? Can we get a few million off the fee?
Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire Shaw
Mount Rice Bellingham
Grealish Kane Foden
That would be far more fun to watch

Nobody to run in behind when Kane drops deep. Everything in front of the opponents defence.

Kane needs one player with out and out pace. I would have gone for Rashford over Sterling.

I seem to be in a minority of one who thinks Southgate is a reasonably good manager.
Also I liked his statement during the week about not booing taking the knee etc.
Everyone seems to think that unless he chooses the team they think is best, then he's rubbish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think now you seen the team selection 52?

Shaw and Rashy must be raging I’d say with the players picked ahead of them

Rashy can't complain but Shaw can.
I expect England to get dominated by Croatia and lose this game.
Hope I am wrong but.... here we go again.
Rashford hasn't done enough since Christmas to get in this team.
But Shaw has.
