Shaw and Rashy must be raging I’d say with the players picked ahead of them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rashy can't complain but Shaw can.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chilwell can before Shaw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chilwell and Shaw have a legit claim to be ahead of a fricking right back playing in their position.

Shaw should be starting

I seem to be in a minority of one who thinks Southgate is a reasonably good manager.
Also I liked his statement during the week about not booing taking the knee etc.
Everyone seems to think that unless he chooses the team they think is best, then he's rubbish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think now you seen the team selection 52?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll tell you after the game. I would have Grealish not Sterling though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way wasn't a win or trying to catch you out.

I'm in two minds about Southgate. Probably leaning on the he isn't right but more.

Reason I asked you the question was because I'm baffled. Based on that selection I'm thinking wtf. They may win and fair enough but based on selection and initial thoughts it's wtf

Only at left back for me. I dont see how Foden, Mount, Grealish and Sterling get in the same team.

2 keepers on bench and no Sancho?

the only gaffe that Southgate is making here is not playing Grealish.

Lets hope this starting team prove him wrong

christ, can't the bbc spend half an hour previewing the game, rather than raiding the archives again...more obsessed with history than liverpool fans

Rice and Phillips sterling and foden is not a midfield to worry most teams.
Grealish and Sancho have had better seasons than foden and sterling.
Shaw was the best left back in the league (Chillwell a close second), trippier is better on the right.
Sancho not even in the squad.
Crap lineup. Crap manager.

Gotta agree. Rashford also had a far better season that Sterling too.

Mings is a liability. Have to hope the forwards are firing because that defence is worrying.

Caleta-Car with some crucial tackles already. He's the one to watch for me on the Croatia team

Southgate is loyal to certain players he trusts. The Sterling decision worked out okay, though any of the pacey wide forwards that could have been picked instead of him would have caused Croatia trouble today.

I get wanting to have Trippier on the pitch for set pieces. But the loyalty to Kyle Walker was more tested - his passing was abysmal. Play Trippier on the right and Shaw or Chilwell on the left.

Also in the absence of Maguire we were very poor at shifting the ball from defence to midfield. I think having Bellingham in there could be key. Or tweaking the formation to accommodate Mount further back.

It’s not going to happen but I’d rather not play Kane tbh.

I was thinking that a more mobile player would have given the attack more fluidity today. Not the best situation for Kane.

Think it would help with that link to the midfield too. The only time the ball over midfield to the attack worked was when it was to Sterling rather than Kane, yet they kept trying the latter because he was there. It enforced the poor play.

At the very least he’s got to flip Sterling and Foden

I just don’t think we’re getting enough benefits from Kane compared to if we had our attack set up without him.

Thought the same in 2018 too tbh.

I'm with you Melton. Kane is a good player, but the opposition know what to expect, and it's not difficult to counter. I hope I'm wrong though.
