When we reach the Argentine we're really gonna show
The world a brand of football that they could never know
We're representing Britain; we've got to do or die
For England cannae dae it 'cause they didnae qualify

It was 1966 World Cup winners and perennial World Cup and European qualifiers England rare failure to qualify in part due to a 2-0 loss in Oslo.

Scotland would also go on to fail to qualify for that World Cup and have only been back once since - not getting out of the group of course as is their custom

England failing to qualify for 5x Euros and 3x WCs and their record once in it defies the hubris.

Aw naw you’ve ruined it noo
I’ll cancel booking in pub for game and go home
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’d wager the Scotland team would still be home before you are

That team had some good players but were no natch for Cubilas and co of Peru.
Followed by 1-1 with Iran and the "What a load of rubbish ,we want our money back chants.
But they almost got through with Archie Gemmil putting Scotland in dreamland which lasted 1 glorious minute until Holland scored

We’re admittedly sheite at the Euros, but World Cup record isn’t not bad at all, we’re comfortably in that second group behind the heavyweights.

Yep, that song is probably Scotland’s biggest accomplishment when it comes to tournament finals
