Everyone is assuming France will win the Group of F, but they were held to a draw by Hungary and Portugal will quite likely revert to ultra defensive football in the final match.

I wouldn’t fancy us against Portugal or Germany either.

Rather we get somebody else and feel our way into the competition.

I think if we win the group we go out.

I would fancy us against Portugal or Germany, if we played in the correct way against them. Portugal have a really good attack, but seem pretty average at the back, as do Germany really and we are no different to either of those in that regard really.

I would rather us top the group to be honest and we get who we get from there. We shouldn't really be having to focus on who we play when, because we have enough about us to beat any side in the competition you would think.

"If the rest of the world remembers anything about England's 1990s tournaments, it's basically Paul Gascoigne and the team performance against the Netherlands."

...and that bloody song

I'm not sure... I consider Portugal our bogey team nowadays. Those defeats in 2000, 2004 and 2006 capture the worst about England in international tournaments.

2000 - Just not being good enough and lacking the guile to see out games against better sides.

2004 - Having a decent side but being outpassed and grinding it out to penalties before bottling it. Throw in the injury as well.

2006 - Having a potentially very good side but managing to be incredibly, crushingly dull before bottling it on penalties, even when the opposition tries to help by missing a couple of their own. Throw in the red card as well.

And this is a pretty decent Portugal team with attacking players who can definitely hurt us.

Don't think we have a particualrly good record against the Germans either.

Before the tournament I’d have preferred to play Germany. Now I’d rather Portugal.

More than 60,000 fans will now be permitted to attend the semi-finals and final of Uefa Euro 2020 at Wembley Stadium, increasing attendance to 75% capacity during the latter stages of the tournament.

Both would be difficult games obviously, I don't know which one I'd rather play personally due to the nations and their styles of play seem to be set up to play against us or break through us.

I don't think either are to be feared either though, we aren't exactly minnows going up against them and they'd have reason to believe that we would be capable of beating them on our day. The biggest issue for me is the way we play, do we have enough about us now to consider ourselves "good enough on our day".

Not seen anything from England's performances to suggest they can beat any of them.

What England need is that spark of creativity which means the manager has to change tactics and personnel much like Bobby Robson did in 1986.

Absolutely, still fancy our chances more than against Germany though.

Dunno, you give Ronaldo the chances we have Scotland and you lose.

Germany have looked a little wasteful (2 of their goals were OGs), although a better side to watch.

A game against Portugal is more likely to be tight and cagey. If what we saw from Germany against Portugal is the level they’ll keep playing at they’ll batter us.

Exactly that.

Can't be sure with Germany though. If they play like they did vs Portugal then yes, they will beat us, however if they were as flat as they were vs France, we have a chance as well. Granted, they were playing against France who were effective at nullifying them with their quality.

Having said that, Germany have a tendency to turn it on during tournaments. As the cliché goes, you can never rule out the Germans.

I didn't think they were flat against France. I thought they were unlucky not to get anything out of the game.

I thought they were ok against France too tbh and still would have beaten most teams, it was only a slight tweak needed that they did against Portugal with the fullbacks.

posted on 22/6/21

Not for me I thought they were flat and they didn't really trouble them. On another day France would have had 3/4 really and Germany didn't really lay a glove on them.

What are you on about? They were anything but flat.

France were more flat than Germany. They had less possession, lest shots at goal and only one shot on target.

And yet France had the ball in the net 3 times and struck the post once through Rabiot...

As I say, Germany were flat.

Spain had 80% possession vs Sweden, multiple more shots etc, but never actually looked like scoring. That was similar to Germany in the game vs France, never actually looked like scoring.

And had to rely on a Humels own goal.

Were they flat. No. they just passed themselves to death.

posted on 22/6/21

And for all their passing themselves to death, they didn't look like scoring, hence why they were flat in the game.

France had to rely on an own goal, right fair enough. How many chances did Germany have in the game?
