Masks no longer a legal requirement

I could gloat here from Australia but we have our own issues. We’re victims of our own success and the country is lagging behind the world in vaccinations. The antivax sentiment is high here because very few people have experienced the realities of the pandemic as many people have been shielded from the world. Could be years before we open up to the world again.

Looking from the outside it would seem the ‘let the bodies pile high’ Boris Johnson seemed to always want to do this but Matt Hancock wanted to keep things safe and listen to the scientists. Lo and behold he goes and messes up with his affair and that video is sat on for a couple of months until the people in power release it and then get a more anti lockdown guy in Sajid coming in and then passing the buck to the general public and when the inevitable winter wave hits then BJ can say ‘we gave you the choice to wear masks if you wanted to so this is all your fault, not ours’.

You guys likely have a terrible winter ahead as there will be a flu bounce back to go with other variants of COVID and now the whole culture of mask wearing seems to be soon forgotten about I wouldn’t be surprised if when that next winter wave happens people refuse to be go back to the mentality of the past year and lots more people die.

Well done 👏

Pretty much what this is saying. The government's given up because it's too much bother to wait until everyone's vaccinated

That is one of the most pathetic articles i have read on this whole pandemic.

Taking phrases such as "we will beat covid" and then being highly critical that we havent eliminated it and are therefore "giving up" and "surrendering" by "accepting to live with it".

Pathetic journalism.

Last winter there was not a single case of flu in the Netherlands. But we happily go back to that crap by dropping all rules that keep us from getting sick. No matter what it is.

I will wear a mask, just for my own piece of mind. And I will tell everyone coming to office with a cold to fack off back home. I will not accept getting the cold in the office because people are too fecking thick to stay home with a cold. "I am grand, its just a cold, sniff sniff". I dont care, you are spreading a virus, feck off.

Read it again. The crux of the argument is that we should have waited until the vaccination programme was as complete as it's ever going to be.

Add to that all the twerps that are saying they won't be wearing masks or social distancing, never mind getting vaccinated and we're not giving ourselves the best chance of coming out of this properly.

We cannot devise law based on the actions of idiots otherwise we'd be under curfew and drinking would be banned.

85% of adults have had the jab and 60% had 2.

In another 2 weeks that will be about 90% jabbed and two-thirds adults double jabbed, and it will include all the vulnerable groups.

There is a balance to be made and relaxing things for the summer is essential to the economy and the mental well being of the majority.

Don't see why they couldn't have left current mask wearing procedures in place for the time being whilst relaxing other rules. Not really a massive hardship.

My feelings too. Feel very sorry for people in the vulnerable category, particularly given we’re doing this during a rise of cases.

Yet we have many laws for the sake of idiots.

Such as those surround seatbelt useage, carbon monoxide and fire alarms, MOTs and a thousand others.

The government don't say "We strongly suggest you get your car checked for roadworthyness, so you aren't a danger to other drivers/pedestrians" they mandate it, by law, an impingement on our freedoms to drive craaaaphole cars and spend our money wherever we like.

He's not wrong. I'd suggest you think it's sheite because you don't want to wear a mask anymore and the vulnerable be damned.

The fact is that lots of these vulnerable folk are still dieing, and that will get worse as cases go up, and significantly increase without the distancing and mask mitigations.

Anyone who chooses not to wear a mask will be complicit in the wave of deaths that the removal will cause.

I will. Why wouldn't you?

You've got variants appearing that you don't know how they'll behave, and scientists are now saying people who refuse to get vaccinated are basically variant factories. It's a very small chore to put a mask for 20 minutes when you go into a shop, and if it stops you passing on symptoms to someone vulnerable why would you not?

I am of the opinion that we need to get on with our lives and let the random nature of death, something we can all look forward to, to continue.

You can't save everyone and if you have health problems then you are on borrowed time any way.

We have been bombarded with the death rate of Covid every day, why was the death rate for all other illnesses and accidents not reported in the past.

Because death happens to people every day, it's not news worthy in it's self.

Before covid I'd be on the tube and someone would sneeze in the carriage, pow the next day I'd have the cold. I was always made to go to school with a cold my Mum's view was 'it's just a cold' soon we will be saying it's just covid.

I find it very difficult to wear a mask, I wear a face covering, just to stop those looks you would get.

But yesterday I was in the supermarket and right by the front door there was some bint collecting money for mental health. She had no mask and was asking everyone coming in for donations. Asked her if she should wear a mask as she was obviously there all day and coming in to contact with hundreds of people.

Her answer, I'm exempt, nearly 5 million are exempt from wearing a mask, so take that and the fact that the data on wearing a mask are not conclusive, used properly, or actually stop you catching it, as the virus lives on surfaces and is not just caught by breathing it in.

From July the 19th I will no longer wear a mask, I'll take my chances, along with unexpectedly dropping dead from a heart attack.

Some have touched on it already but the use of masks extends much further than if it does or does not help stop the spread of infection. There are a lot of people out there who are still incredibly anxious about Covid (And not everyone is or can be vaccinated remember).

For those people, being around others in masks could be the difference between them feeling comfortable to leave the house or not. That's why I'll continue to wear one when I'm in closely populated places (shops/public transport etc) for while longer yet I think.

And I think for the long term, if you every get a cold in the future and you're out and about, the polite thing will be to put on a mask. I think they're here to stay in some capacity.

And apologies for coming on to your board to post. Sandy has filtered me so I can't comment on his similar post!
