Great news!

There is decent sized risk element to this signing given his lack of football over the last few years but I believe it's the correct approach from the club.

We have to try to find value in the market and this is a player that could easily be worth £25-£30m if he can rediscover previous form and have a good season.

We have taken advantage of the financial situation at Barcelona too.

Pressure on the clubs scouts & Bielsa's coaching to make sure this works but I think we can have faith in both.

He appears to be a player that will be an improvement going forward and defensively. That will also add much needed height to the side.

Very optimistic about this one.

Happy with the signing. His attributes, both physical and performance-wise, seem to lend themselves to a Bielsa approach. He worked well under Setien at Betis, who apparently held a similar philosophy to Bielsa with us. Still relatively young, and should do a good job.

Don't see much more risk with this one than any other. Potential downside in his lack of recent gametime, but balanced out by underpaying his probable peak value. Will be an interesting one.

I think the element of risk is outweighed by the reduced fee. If this player had continued on the trajectory he was on 2 years ago there's no way we would be able to afford him.

But a safe £12m left back will have a much lower ceiling than this lad.

For me it makes sense to back the ability of the scouts and coaches to make these riskier moves work and reap the much higher rewards available if they do.

Reading Barcelona fan reactions, apparently they still owe Betis 9 million as part of their deal for him, with 20% of this fee also going to Betis (also seems like there's a 20% sell on clause as part of this deal), which means they've only actually made about 3 million off this deal.

We might as well be paying Betis for him.

Its all good mentioning his game time at Barca, but there are a few decent players that'll not be getting game time there due to their first team and the class off players they have!..

This just might be another Rodrigo/Raphael/Koch/Llorente sighning!..

Good luck to the lad and all the best for the Leeds united shirt!..

Good signing. Hopefully the number 3 we've been crying out for years. 20% sell on so perhaps they expect him to be a star.

I've got a good feeling about this signing

Think something worth appreciating. There was other interest in Firpo (AC Milan the highest profile). Apparently part of the reason Firpo chose Leeds was that he was impressed that Victor Orta went in person, armed with presentations, and sacrificed himself to a five day quarantine period, as opposed to other clubs who tried to speak with him via Zoom.

Yes, being second choice to Jordi Alba doesn't make you a bad player at all!!!

That's not a slight on the player.

The risk is just the last of game time means he could have gone backwards in his development. But he also might have learned a lot from being at Barcelona and Jordi Alba.

We will find out soon enough

Yeh, but he wont have lost out on development, he'll have still been playing in the younger teams, all he wont have is so much first team time but will still be leaning/training with the youngsters!..

Don't think once Bielsa and Co get working with him he'll be that much behind!..

That's top notch by Victor.

As for the player, I'm excited he signed.
He was seen as one of the best LB's in
Spain while at Betis. I think I read he
played for Barca 41 times over his two
years there. Mainly cups. I've stopped
worrying about Orta's signings. Happy.

Excited by this.

Barca signed him to be Jordi Alba's long term replacement only two years ago, so he must have something about him. Maybe not at that level but could be great for us.

Waiting for Jonty...…...

"So you're saying Victor Orta flew all the way over there using company funds to unnecessarily meet with him when he could've done it over Zoom for free?

Disgusting and incompetent"
