No one was even talking about Schick before the euros tbf, but the general point is true and has been for a while
I think it would've been less noticeable to Spurs fans as you have Kane and Son, but for teams trying to sign a quality striker it's been difficult for a good few years now, probably illustrated by the fees that have been paid for Morata for example.
Just look at the top 4 last season:
City did not bother player a striker
United relying on Cavani
Liverpool playing fake 9 Firmino
Chelsea's top scorer was Georgino with 7 pens
Strangely enough I thought ronaldo was poor in the tournament but got what 5 goals? Kane also hardly played well and has a few. Same with morata.
Use to be a sign of a top striker to not play very well and still grab a goal, like ronaldo and Kane have done. But bar those exceptions it seems strikers are asked to be all round players and ball players nowadays so we rarely see the bulldozing number 9 who just scuffs them in hook or by crook.
No more inzaghi, klose, lineker type strikers anymore who just get the ball in the net and that’s all they do.
The game doesn't seem need strikers any more.
Didn't seem to faze city and spurs having the bestest striker in the world worth 200M didn't exactly impress.

Indeed. Makes you wonder about the likes of Greenwood at Utd. Seems like a clinical finisher but he's not particularly physical , doesnt really play with his back to goal, or have the vision/passing of Kane or a Firmino, so you wonder whether he will ever get to play in his preferred position .

Would be the perfect back up for Kane but if Kane stays I can only see us loaning a striker this window as no one will want to come knowing he is his back up.

What's the point if you cannot finish them? and what happened when they brought a striker on? (a pretty poor one at that!)
They’ve struggled with finishing them all competition with or without a striker. Thought it was the right tactics, most of the time Spain win that game.

Which is my entire point. There aint that many top quality strikers in world football which is resulting in teams dropping the best they have available in favour of a midfielder. This may give them added creativity but at the cost of not having anyone they can rely on or even be in the position to finish the chances created.

Is there a reason the game demands an all around striker now instead of carrying someone who scruffs the ball into the net?

If England win the Euros..advertising and media value of Kane will add at least 50m to whatever Levy had in mind before the Euros started.
