Could be worse,Could be still in the EU and have far fewer people vaccinated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Like Germany...?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
UK has 11% more of the population vaccinated compared to Germany
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s not what you said though, you said if we were in the EU we’d have fewer people vaccinated. That’s wrong on two accounts - if we’d have administered as many vaccines as Germany then we’d have more people vaccinated than we do, so being in the EU clearly wasn’t a blocker. Also we could have stayed in the Eu and not been part of the ema rollout so it wasn’t a blocker in that regard either.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nonsense.

If we’d been in the EU we’d have been given an allocation based on population as the remainder have so we would be around the same percentage.

Secondly, the political pressure to go with the flow would have made it practically impossible to do our own thing.

Utter tosh. Why not just acknowledge that being out of the EU allowed us to be where we are, for better or worse?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good job we're doing our own thing. It's gone really well so far hasn't it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. It is.

Do you actually believe that any of these European countries are really going to fare much better when this pandemic is a virus we live with properly? Or are you one of those who likes counting part way through?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the numbers suggest that many, many countries have done far, far better than us and have had a level of "normality" for a while now. Every number we look at since this began paints us in an incredibly negative way. The vaccine rollout seemed to paper over some cracks, but ultimately, look at the numbers again now. Spiralling again. The whole thing had been a shambles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said; counting part way through. Numbers of what spiralling? Deaths? No. NHS overrun? No.

Mistakes made in a pandemic never seen before by this population? Undoubtedly.

European countries starting to think again about restrictions carrying on, most likely into next year. Still to face the ravages of a 3rd wave as we have with a known 4th on the way?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And why haven't they faced a third wave? If you don't think we've handled this worse than the majority of others, you're embarassing yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t blame Sturgeon for how she’s handled the pandemic.

It’s an unprecedented situation to deal with and although I don’t like Sturgeon, think it’s unfair to have a go her for he handling of it. She’s just done what Boris does but two weeks later with a better speech, so has been cautious. Sturgeon should have done more earlier instead of relying on Boris but like I say it was unprecedented.

Think it’s abhorrent to compare countries Covid deaths like a league table myself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abhorrent? It kind of depends on the context doesn't it. I'm not using it to point score, but it's kind of the bottom line regarding the handling of this situation. So there is no getting the away from it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Sturgeon has handled a lot of things badly.

Like I say I’m not a fan of her, but if your comparing deaths between countries then there’s really not much difference between Scotland and other small countries. Data is also for deaths with Covid, not because it if it.

I mean Sweden has had almost the same deaths per capita as Scotland yet it’s had next to no restrictions. Sturgeon had stricter restrictions in parts of Scotland than anywhere else.

I think she’s handled it as best she could. She’s obviously been a hypocrite with her treatment of Rangers vs Scotland fans, and I think she’s been too strict personally. But that’s my personal opinion.
