There was a huge amount of pressure on him, being built into some kind of messi figure. He’s not. Very good player, could see some logic in using him as a sub when the opposition get tired because of his ability to take on players.
Southgate does not trust him whether in midfield or out wide. He lacks the discipline to do the defensive work. He has been hugely overrated yes.

For someone who I was told over and over again was the messiah, a mixture of Kaka and Messi, he was garbage...
I've been disappointed with him in the last couple of games that's for sure, but when he's come on (or started) he's usually had an impact on the game.
He's clearly a talented player who just needed more of an opportunity to do things. It's always difficult coming on in games regardless.
