Transfers

Don’t think any of us are thinking things are going well and we are confident of this season.

I’m kind of thinking they’re almost writing this year off already and anything we get is a bonus. It’s likely a 2-3 year plan (if there is one of course) and I’m with many who think the appointments of our manager and CEO are colossal mistakes.

As ever. We will see.

It’ks what we do, i’m numb to it.

I am sure you will pull a couple of rabbits out the hat in the next few days but lordy are you leaving it late.

Its one thing maybe getting boys to sign ahead of next week. Getting them up to speed with the rest of the squad and Anges way of playing isnt going to happen with one or two training sessions.

Celtic should be favourites to beat the midgets even with their current squad but the lack of transfer activity both in and out is pleasing.

Same old mistakes being made but at least you never got your erses tanned by Tranmere Rovers.

I highly doubt we will. Friendly on Saturday and then it’s on to the real thing.

The window is barely open so there’s so way we will be adding anything much if at all this side of the qualifiers.

Quite surprised at how Celtic have gone about things so far. Finished 25 points behind us last season and only thing that has changed since May when the last ball was kicked is you have a different Manager and about 6 less players.

Same backroom staff
Same players minus the loans
Same issues with the players who Lennon came out as saying wanted away almost one year ago now, still there still want away
Same football structure
Same trouble with a striker who has been stealing a living for about 4 years

Your season starts in 8 days and the Manager has been in place for over a month yet the only one in is a teen on a free from League 1 Sheff Wed. Struggling to get my head round it. Even if you sign 6 players this week you would imagine the game next week comes too soon regardless.

Starting to become a bit clearer why Howe never signed on in the end. Might be a bit of bottle from his side but must have been very concerned about assurances of his own backroom team, transfers and backing.

Why is it clearer as to why Howe decided last minute not to join? It’s weeks since then. If he’d joined then we would in all likelihood be further ahead in recruitment.

He didn’t join because he wasn’t able to choose his DOF (quite right too) and his back room team didn’t want to come up to Scotland. They left it late in the day but we allowed that to happen. Our fault. We should have given him an ultimatum weeks earlier.

Doesn't matter now about getting new faces in the door for next.week.....too late in the day to make any material difference...... wouldn't be surprised to lose next week's tie.....

What I find most surprising is that they brought in Big Ange and so far he doesnt seem to have come with anything else other than his ideas on how the game should be played and a positive attitude on the training field.

I would have thought a coach of his experience would bring so much more than just the man himself.

Theres not been many links with hidden gem players he could have identified from his vast experience in the southern hemisphere.

No experienced campaigners have arrived from his time as a top international manager that he can bring in to do a job even in the short term.

He hasnt assembled a crack coaching team to help implement his philosophy or top fitness team to get the celtic players as fit as all those Aussie lasses in those 'work out' videos.

From the outside looking in it all seems a bit bizarre at this stage.

There may be a day soon where Ange has a photocall alongside Matt Ryan, Aaron Mooy, the best 2 players in the J league and Scott MacDonald as they all sign for Celtic.

But so far its just been Big Ange and a lot of good PR in the papers about him.

When is the Ange Revolution actually scheduled to start?

He’s in the door a few weeks and he’s supposed to have some excellent players already on the books?

When did transfers like that last happen so quickly?

Sky - Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says his focus is on bringing in new players rather than convincing wanted members of his squad to stay.

Looks like there no chance of keeping your good players.

I think you have answered the question in there. If he can't choose his own staff and has reservations about the backing he would receive to bring in new players then a Manager with his background would never sign on.

I agreed with Celtic on the DoF point at the time, but then Celtic haven't since brought in a DoF and appointed the Coach before him so it sort of makes that point a bit irrelevant. Howe has more to lose than Ange in the current circumstances so I can fully understand why he decided it wasn't worth it.

posted on 12/7/21

He was appointed more than a month ago. There's been plenty of time to bring in players or staff. Your season starts in 8 days.

posted on 12/7/21

We brought in a manager and then a DoF. Not sure that's the issue, the issue is there is no DoF just now in the middle of what should be Celtic's busiest window in a decade.

posted on 12/7/21

There’s a huge difference between demanding your own DOF along with your back room staff refusing last minute to join you and signing players.

Us not signing a DOF up is fairly typical of us.

posted on 12/7/21

We did and it didn't work out. I was also very critical of it at the time so nothing to do with Celtic. The whole point of a DoF is to shape the football strategy, shouldn't be the other way round. That's why I backed Celtic on the point about Howe bringing his own DoF.

Don’t agree that it’s expected any new manager will just bring in new players within a month.

It’s all pretty moot anyway. We are where we are. Hey ho.

Ross Wilson has done a good job imo

posted on 12/7/21

That's fair enough Ginger, and not suggesting there should be an exact timescale on when people come in.

But it has been clear for a long time Celtic would need an overhaul this summer. Clear that about 5 loan players would go and 4 players who have wanted away for a while would need to be moved on. The captain would go. So when the season starts in 8 days and there's no progress I think fans have a right to feel aggrieved at the lack of progress.

Ross Wilson has done a great job. Big fan of his. I was referring more to the model where we said we were going down the DoF route but let Pedro come in and spend a fortune on duds before a DoF came in. When Pedro left we were left trying to move them on and rebuild at the same time with a new Manager who had a totally different identity.

I would have thought if Big Ange was so experienced and revered by everyone he has ever coached apart from Bob Malcom then he would have been able to sign up one or two that he has worked with before.

I agree he hasnt been in the door that long and in the grand scheme of things patience will be required.

But I would just have thought that given the circumstances Celtic were in with the qualifiers, if Ange had a couple of aces up his sleeve like Matt Ryan or Aaron Mooy type players, then they might be in the building by now.

Similarly with regards coaches. Was the chat last week not that Kennedy and Strachan are staying?

We were promised the Ange Express!
