John Percy
@JPercyTelegraph
Wayne Rooney is now able to sign up to 5 players, but is still restricted to free agents on 12-month contracts or 6-month loans under the EFL's transfer embargo. Curtis Davies set to be the 1st signing, with Andre Wisdom & Ravel Morrison also to be offered deals #dcfc
...so who will the other 2 deals be ???? On Saturday's viewing I'd go with Baldock & Aluko....doesn't seem enough though for a whole season...

Rooney knew where is career was going to be at quite an earlier age and having a GCSE in fooking French was not a requirement.

Would you castigate an Oxford college Don for not having passed an exam in PE?

It's all about priorities, thing is you will never reach the heights that Rooney has, you'll never get anywhere near the earning that Rooney has, have you got a French GCSE or better pass,if so what has it done to help you achieve mor than Rooney?

"Further to a request from Derby County, the EFL Board has now considered the circumstances regarding appearances made by a number of academy players in the FA Cup tie against Chorley earlier this year.

Upon review, the Board has determined that the appearance in that fixture by those players will not be considered as part of any assessment of whether they are players of ‘professional standing’ in line with the League’s embargo policy, due to the exceptional circumstances that applied at the time of the fixture.

However, the Board rejected a further request to relax an enhanced embargo that remains in place in respect of other regulation breaches. The Club will therefore continue to be under wage restrictions on player recruitment and limited to a squad size up to 23 players of ‘professional standing’.

posted on 20/7/21

Hi, Terry. I know Percy is pretty reliable but if the EFL agrees not to count the Chorley kids as players of "professional standing" then surely we are allowed enough freebies/loans to bring us up to the limit of 23? We are well below that and should thus be allowed more than five signings. If Percy is right however that seems to mean the EFL are still determined to make life difficult for us. In that scenario if we sign Davies Wisdom and Morrison then I agree we need Aluko and Baldock to give us some strikers but we would be very stretched in the centre back area. Fozzie would be available but three centre backs would leave us very thin on the ground there. I just hope Percy has got that part of it wrong.

So Percy is correct in stating that we can make 5 additions. On the list provided by Desi there are 19 player whom have made a first team appearance (not including the FA Cup tie last season). But Jordan Brown has since not taken up his contract offer, so this leaves 18 player of professional standing.

posted on 20/7/21

Isn't the bigger picture here how we're now relying on these 5 extra spaces?

Does this mean we have no intention of paying overdue debts and submitting our accounts? We've accepted living under the embargo for the season, and any further punishment that may come? or are we somehow going to be prompt with payments and submit all our accounts on time next time they're due?

The implications of that need considering.

posted on 20/7/21

It doesn't mean there is no intention of submitting accounts. Accounts have to be submitted. What it means is that in the short-term we can make some signings. Coming out of the embargo is in the hands of the EFL and it isn't sensible to assume that they will necessarily release us from it. They will want to scrutinise the re-submitted accounts and this will all take time, time that we do not have at the moment as the new season is imminent and we have very few players.

Exactly right and we also have to pay the Revenue and there could also be a points deduction if we are found to have breached FFP.
Earlier I got myself tied up with the magic numbers 9 (our registered seniors) and 23 (permitted total pros) thinking we had a big leeway but forgetting that the likes of Stretton, Watson and McDonald (and presumably others) had had first team runouts. So Rooney has a headache in trying to decide which five players to sign. Morrison looked great but can we risk it? We urgently need centre backs and strikers. I would have thought that a 12 month contract would be preferable to a 6 month loan. Also we seem to be effectively under a salary cap re any incomings so will the players WR wants feel like playing for smaller amounts? Jagielka might I suppose but who knows? Difficult.

posted on 21/7/21

In defence, if we do re-sign Curtis and Wisdom then we're still lacking as Clarke has gone - so IMO we need either Jagielka or Stearman too. That said we do have Fozzie who can play there. If we want to make any further progress it may mean we have to let go 1 or 2 of our youngsters. Rooney stated on Saturday that one of the reasons we struggled so much last season was 'too many youngsters' .....I liked what I saw in Baldock, Morrison & Aluko....so it appears something has to give to enable us to compete in the Championship this year. Rather than 5 new signings I'd say we need 7.
Percy from the Daily Telegraph has an 'ear' at Derby and therefore isn't normally that far from the truth.

posted on 21/7/21

Are we right to pursue Teden Mengi, or would we better trying for more experience in the back four,
I think we do wrong relying on too many youngsters against teams with a few bullying hard pro's, making them feel intimidated.

posted on 21/7/21

But it now seems we are down to four possible signings as Hutchinson has played for Sarfend. And Carroll is training with us now which complicates things still further.

posted on 21/7/21

It's very good that even though we have all the problems off the field, quite a few players still want to play for us..
Probably the influence of Wayne, but I hope also because of the clubs standing.
I really hope that he can sort out the wheat from the chaff.

posted on 21/7/21

The 23 limit only applies whilst we are under embargo. As soon as we are out then more can be signed so I hope that taking all these guys on trials means we hope to be sorted out quite soon.

posted on 21/7/21

There's been murmurs for a couple of weeks that a takeover is imminent but I think we've learnt from the last two possible takeovers how that works out.

Tom Carrol's name being mentioned is a strange one given the 23 squad limit. Additionally he's not had a great spell in the last three years due to injuries, managing a maximum 31 games over three seasons.

Positives - he's one of the top performing players for forward passing, he is the type of player we desperately need (minus his injury record) in midfield in terms of creativity. Personally, I'd love us to find a young Charlie Adam.
