Tbf, Liverpool has done a great job of preserving the streets away from the waterfront.

The area around Upper Parkiament Steet and the fringes of Toxteth make for a pleasant walk, something that wouldn't have been contemplated in the 1980's unless you were a local.

I got to the word “China” and stopped reading there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think everyone else did too seeing as that was the last word of the post.

Bang on about China too.

They've probably got their eyes on a few sites near the 3(4) Graces and gettiing rid of the UNESCO rating will make it easier to knock a few older buildings down

Rather it lost and the whole area is redeveloped into the main attraction of the city at the waterfront, the new stadium, the bars, restaurants, hotels and leisure activities that will come from it than keep it's heritage status and left derelict, unused and just an absolute dump

'Immerse yourself in history at the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. In the centre of Beijing is Tiananmen Square, one of the city's most famous attractions. ... Built in the 15th century, the Forbidden City is now a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site and one of the five most important palaces in the world.'

Maybe you should murder a couple of hundred protestors.

Liverpool should probably be recognized for maintaining its 1980s feel really. It has been stuck in that decade for 40 years now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think you've ever been to Liverpool, Cinciwolf
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Used to go up and drink in Wallassey quite a bit in the 90s, at least i think it was the nineties but there were a lot of shell suits and perms still going on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You went 30 years ago and don't think it's changed much since

I was being sarcastic and jumping on a stereotype that scousers still rustle around in shell suits and have perms, granted they did in the 90s but i couldn't speak for now.

Liverpool is a fantastic city. One of my favourites actually with some of my favourite bands of all time coming from the area. Love a day drinking sesh and getting the last train home.

Just a shame about the football clubs, one in particular of course.

Wow…what a week for Everton.

First, one of their players was caught making whoopie with a child.
Second, one of their fans was arrested for being a vampire and murdered a bunch of people.
And now this, which is their fault.

The People’s Club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's your beef with Everton? You've never even been to the city they play in

Leave the local rivalry to locals, it's a bit embarrassing for you

That China was the place that issued this order is probably pertinent, as much of the exotic colour attributed to the "Old Liverpool" was it's Chinatown district , the destruction of which, I'm guessing only, is a major part of the discussion.
I mention this because I heard from Liverpool old timers, though fquite squalid, the area was one of the most fascinating spots of the city.

That's why there are so few places in China designated as "heritage sites", despite the countries 5 millenia of history.
Its a clear choice for the city planners..if you want to hold on to a 'heritage status" , you must leave the location according to certain standards. Feel free to redevelop but do not expect to keep the heritage status.
