Meh.

Yeah fantastic voice.

I’m actually a guitarist and me and my singer do a cover of Back to Black, which is a terrific song. I should listen to more of her stuff. Probably not my genre overall but highly talented and obviously quite a sensitive, vulnerable character whose plight makes you rethink the idea of pop star/celebrity.

Meet you downstairs in the bar and hurt
Your rolled up sleeves in your skull t-shirt

super talented and Iconic - seemed strong yet fragile inside

I don't really have a fav genre. I like Rock, Indie, Reggae, Soul, Dance, Pop even some rap music if it's done well and not full of people bragging about what car they have and what bling they own.

Amy is definitely one of my favourites though. Her albums are superb. Every single track.

Love listening to Amy

Sadly she had issues and died far too young

Yes, I’m not strict on genre… I guess I mean that there’s a certain style or attitude with Amy Winehouse’s music that doesn’t “speak to me”. Going to make a point of listening to some of her albums though.

Now, Lana Del Rey - there is a singer I can listen to all day…

A voice I will never tire listening to.

A person I never really warmed to.

She's great too. Me and the wife went to see her live as well. Very impressed.

I liked her, but not a major fan like the OP

I feel that I’ve grown to love her music so much more since she died, she was such a huge talent that suffered such a needless death. Drugs and alcohol can be the devil sometimes.

Really, really hope I get to see LDR live over the next couple of years. I think she’s a terrific songwriter as well as singer.

I used to go on holiday with the family every year to Eurocamp in France. I was on a campsite and staying next to a crazy Dutch family - the husband spent the entire time outside his campervan in his speedos enjoying smoking some delights he’d brought from home.

I always used to take my guitar and was faffing around one night and he came over and we started talking. He had a tv in his campervan and the news had come on that Amy Winehouse had died, and so I started playing back to black. After enjoying some of his delights he’d brought from home, he went back to his campervan and brought out a guitar as well.

We started playing and went into her cover of Valerie (him singing with a bizarre Sean Connery imitation type voice!), by the time we were half way through it, half of the campsite were there singing along.

I’ve played to a lot of people, think that was the most emotional moment I’ve ever had playing the guitar though!

Still remember he said we should start a tribute band and call it Amy HouseWine, which still tickles me!

That’s great… I got to play live for the first time since before the pandemic last weekend and it was such a thrill. Yes, we did play Back to Black. Not sure I’ve had that experience with a stranger that you speak of though. Never bothered to learn Valerie either! One day.

Sadly it took seeing the Amy documentary for her to click for me. Since then I’ve listened to her music in a completely different light. Fantastic singer, and hugely talented writer too.

I kinda bumped into her once walking along Tottenham Court Road. I had my headphones on listening to music and, in a bit of a dream seeing her coming the opposite way, recognised her face without realising it was her, thought she was just someone I knew or had met. We had a brief ‘moment’ as we both went to say hello, before just smiling and both heading off in our different directions.

Was maybe a year before Back To Black came out and everything changed for her.

Disgraceful the way the press treated her. Ten years later and they’re still making the same mistakes. Never learn, that lot.

Amy HouseWine! Brilliant.

Yes talented lady but like many talented pop/rock stars had some demons she couldn't shake.

The press build people up, knock them down and then report on their demise. Afterwards they'll run a bit poece about mental health with no sense of irony or shame.

Only time I saw her live was when she supported the Arctic’s at OT cricket ground, as well as the Corals and Supergrass supporting. She was brilliant.

Remember the NME’s front page headline saying something like ‘AMY: WE’RE ALL TO BLAME’.

Thought speak for yourselves you pr/cks. You made a nice wedge taking the p/ss out of her.

I can imagine clockwork, been a long time since people have been either to play or experience live music which are both part of life’s joys to me.

The year before that, I met Tom Jones’s guitarist on the 24hr ferry to Santander and we spent the whole night on deck playing Beatles songs badly as we’d drunk too much!

Was there that day too. It was a brilliant gig that. I love all those acts too.

The Parrots were on too I think. Japanese Beatles band.

I'd only really got back into playing guitar, and certainly playing it seriously for audiences, about two years before Covid struck. Really was terrible timing in that sense, although obviously in the grand scheme of things I count myself (touch wood) at the more fortunate end of human experience during the pandemic.

Absolutely. I haven’t played live for a long time now, I got a bit too into it when I was younger and I lost seeing it as a hobby. I prefer just messing around at home nowadays, more so on the piano tbh as I started there and didn’t get to where I should have done. The kids have been my audience for the last ten years!

That buzz of playing live when you want to is amazing though.

Spent years learning guitar when I was a kid, got really good too, but haven’t licked one up in years. Now I’m quite into music tech, love software synths am currently messing around doing my own stuff and remixes these days, need to get the guitar back on the go. A decent pc, (I use a gaming one, but tailored for audio), a music control keyboard, a decent daw, ableton, reason Cubase etc, and audacity (which is totally free and a brilliant audio editor) is pretty much all you need.
