Plenty of athletes are unable to compete due to their physical condition, the mental condition whilst not a complete parallel can have a similar impact.

Similarly then, if a player is constantly injured they get labeled a crock. I'm all for mental health awareness but it's not 'better' than a physical injury. It's something that either can be addressed and fixed or they retire

Yeah it’s good thing really.

If you look at it from the person of an injury, it may viewed differently.

Plenty of athletes are unable to compete due to their physical condition, the mental condition whilst not a complete parallel can have a similar impact.

In her case, is the mental thing because she couldn't live up to the hype that she and the press created? She would rather quit than see herself not get a gold?

Don't get me wrong I love Biles, especially being one of the greatest athletes and a black women and stuff but she took a place away from someone who would've competed.

Women’s Olympic football should be good. Australia vs GB on Friday. Best player on the planet Sam Kerr hopefully batters you guys.

But they aren’t the same, and the severity of the two needs to be considered. If you break your leg you cannot physically compete. But if you consider that many athletes compete through injuries and it can have a negative impact on performance, whereas others may choose to avoid competing to recover to be at their best further along the line. If dropping out of competition in a similar fashion to the latter due to mental health is something an athlete wants to do, then fair play to them.

PP, I don’t really know enough about the situation to comment on that. But if she’s going to compete in other events, would the same not apply?

Potatoes, po-tah-toes. Kerr is a legend and deffo the player the GB women will fear the most. Sucks she plays for Chelsea but she’d probably do better for us than Ighalo did so I’ll get Culer to call Ole.

Personally I think Biles didn't do as well as she thought she would and decided to quit, it's a shame as she took a spot from someone else who would've performed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
And in the process made it all about her!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She cracked under pressure because it was already all about her but when she quits she's made it all about her?

Doesn't make sense.

the pressure on her is ridiculus.

is 'expected' she win an olympic gold, which is terrybul.

walk a mile in her shoes n feel her pane, especially as her feets r probably tiny.

Fair play to Japan. I know it’s their home Olympics but I’ve been surprised how many sports they’ve been great at.
