Too many longstanding grudges / beefs for genuine footy conversations to get off the ground sadly.

True, and J&B whisky. But I still believe we can do it.
How about you Roy's?

Hi manusince52. Big, fan but have you not tried some proper Scottish whisky? Could really improve your life
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've pretty much tried them all. Justerini and Brooks (j and b) who I used to by wine off, gave me the whisky at a good price if I spent over £200 on win.
I love Laphroaig but can only get it at a high price here.
Also I'm not a connoisseur of whisky, though I pretend I am of wine. In two weeks I hope to be in St Emilion stocking up.

I'm not sure we'll win the league, there are a few other teams who have equally or stronger squads but we really should be in and around there at least.

'Banter' and jokes aside, this is a really strong league. My minimum expectation would be a strong challenge - taking it to within the last 3-5 games at least - the QF of the CL and a good run in the FA Cup. But most of all, I just want to see some really good games, goals and great moments. Lot of people will say a trophy or league title is the minimum but I don't think it's quite that black or white.

Very much looking forward to the season.

Like the optimism, but I think City and Chelsea are ahead in terms of their squads at present and are stronger than us to fight on all fronts.

Think Ole will want and need a trophy (FA / League cup realistic), which will pull resources away from a league challenge too much for us I think.

Top 3 though I reckon. Pool to have another poor season, age profile of their first 11 doesn’t look good to me.

Couldn't agree more Fox. I will now bore everyone with my live viewing days.
And honestly memories are made of moments not trophies. I wish I could get Mick and Ray on here. Football is made of magic moments and humour, not trophies.

Regarding Ole, the club are backing him more than they have any other manager. He’ll be expected to challenge this season. If he doesn’t then at some point they’ll ask themselves if they have the best available manager to manage such an expensively assembled squad. I suspect we don’t (to say the least) but he’s deserved this season to really change a lot of minds. If we finish 20 points behind the league winners and don’t win a trophy you’d think his job should be questioned.

I can't disagree Robb, but I think he has the talent and squad to do it.

But I'm lousy and at predictions so who knows.

So long as the Aussie boys don't cheat, I think you will get a surprise in the tests.

Any ch of you coming back to Europe, Australia is to far for a beer.

Ole is just 2 players (CB and DM) away from having signed a player in every position for a starting 11.

With 1 or both of those positions potentially being covered still this summer, Ole should be close to achieving something this season.

The squad has come a long way, Mourinho's last game in charge had the following starting 11:

De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Smalling, Darmian; Herrera, Matic; Rashford, Lingard, Young; Lukaku.

Jones, Fellaini and Valencia were on the bench. Whether Ole ends up being 'the man' or not, he's steered us away from some truly rubbish times as a United fan and will leave behind by far our best, most coherent squad we've had since Fergie left. He'll have had a very large part in that.

Our starting 11 next season is right up there in terms of talent. I've not once been able to say that since he left.

That line up is a bit misleading, as that was his final selection not his strongest. Shaw and Pogba being notable absentees.

Aw you guys!!Well, if you count the old BBC606, then I’m a Vet of 20 years. The toxicity has gone, cos BBC didn’t know how to monitor, or didn’t care. But this is easily the best damn forum around.

Yeah, we ain’t winning no Title…as of now.
I’ll wait til the window shuts, to confirm or hopefully change my mind,
For me, Varane. Pogba Stays. The McFred pivot dies.
Braver attacking displays, rather than the Pragmatic approach. Then maybe I’ll start to believe in a title challenge…

Genuinely excited about our first team if we sign Varane, A RB and any of Oblak or Donnarumma and also any of Camavinga, Kante or the next Kante.

Think Mike summed it up once when he said we should buy the player Leicester are scouting to replace Ndidi

Have a bar full of single malts but J&B is my go to scotch. Actually hard to buy in the domestic market with Waitrose the only mainstream stockists.

Pogba was on the bench to be fair, it wasn't forced on him, he just wasn't playing him. My point is generally to show where we were at that point as a squad. It shows the state of the squad overall and Shaw was being absolutely pelted by our own fans, so I'd hardly include him as a positive addition at that point in time, his progression under Solskjaer is clear and the difference in his performance levels are vast. From people saying he isn't in the top ten left backs in the Prem, to him being mentioned as one of the best in the world.

Overall point is we were a complete mess, Pogba wasn't being played as he was badly managed, the depth and quality of the squad was nowhere near what it is now and neither were the performance levels. It was such a toxic and depressing time. To think it was only 2 and a half years ago seems crazy, to me.

While the squad development wasn't great, the 'mess' was more the manager's handling of it than the overall quality. The results over Ole's first few months shows that it was not as bad a squad as some like to make out.
