Convicted horse-puncher and, despite appearances, actually not a bear.

If Celtic get £20m for Eddy after the season he's had and with one year left on his contract then they've played a blinder. Wouldn't be surprised if bids were coming in at half of that.

Be interesting to see how it goes the closer it gets to the window. He's effectively a free agent on 1st September so the closer it gets it becomes about who is more desperate - the buying club to get their primary target for the new season or the selling club to avoid missing out on a significant amount of money in the midst of a pandemic.

The 50% sell-on fee due to PSG is quite a hit to take.

posted on 26/7/21

Is it up to 50% sell on fee now?

I thought we were only up to 40%

Is next week 70%?

When do we ignore profits?

Yeah if you are Brighton you probably want him in now for the season ahead.

Thing is we talk about how great a deal it is for him and the likes of Ajer for that money but it's also a great deal for the buying club in the current market. If Ajer does well there then next season based on market rate Brentford will double their money. If Ed gets 20 goals down there and they have a good season they make easy profit on that.

That's why it's important to negotiate a sell-on clause should a player's next fee goes for over a certain amount.

Heard we're actually paying Brighton to take him, and we still owe PSG 150% of whatever we pay Brighton.

The deal is 30% of any profit. So if he goes for £20 million then PSG get 30% of £11 million.

The famous Football Transfer Tavern website, who use the Daily Record as their source, who say in their report that they understand...

Considering we paid £9 million for him, that he had by his standards last season a poor season (think he was still top goalscorer?!), and is going into the last year of his contract - if we make £5 million profit on him, that still seems a bit of a result for me.

As you see - the Daily Record were not the only source as witnessed by this statement:

"Reports over the last 12 months have suggested Celtic would need to give 40% or 50% of any deal to the French giants after they signed Edouard for over £9m in 2018."

"However, according to the Daily Record, Parkhead chiefs need to give PSG 50% of any profit they make on the striker."

Another media outlet:

"GIVEMESPORT can reveal that Paris Saint-Germain inserted a substantial sell-on clause into his deal when moving to Celtic of around 50%. With that in mind, the Hoops are looking for around £20m if they were to sell. "

Having been brought in for a club-record £9m in the summer of 2018 after a successful one-year loan, the Scottish giants are seeking to make some sort of profit on the player, though will have to pay around half of it back to the French champions after a clause was inserted into the initial deal.

I know fans want the lower/higher sell-on % to be true when it suits the narrative/purpose.

Just a wee bit 'scarfy'.

You can't expect just to say "The deal is 30% of any profit" and not be challenged on it.

It's the same when supporters say "we got £20m for him" when the figure is actually way lower or "we only paid £5m" for him when the figure may be as much as double that.

I’m just glad he’s away
Annoying coont scored too many goals
Don’t care how much money you get it’s about how it’s invested

He's not away yet though.

It's not like someone has started an article saying he's defo away for £25 million and that's a fair price...

Oh I’m sure Eddy fancies a bigger club than Brighton. Would have got one too, if he hadn’t downed tools for the last 12 months and counting. Thick coont.
