Hopefully he signs and takes us to a whole new level. I just don't see anything positive that Lindelof brings. He doesn't excell at anything.

So nothing beyond what has been reported for weeks.

Wages not an issue. No fee agreed. Expected to be under £50m.

Not excited as many are for this one. For me he’s had a poor 18-24 months.
Was one of the best CB in the world and if he can get back to his performances from 3-4 yrs ago then we have a fantastic defender and the best cb partnership in the league. As per United kill the life out a signing but hopefully we get it over the line ASAP so that we can bed him in for start of the season. Expect a lot of the first teamers to come back this week

A poor 18-24 months? Have you watched him every game in that time span? I’ve seen enough RM fans say hes in his prime and stories of his decline are fabricated.

I have watched a fair bit yes both at Madrid and in the Euros. He’s made a fair few mistakes. Haven’t said he is a bad defender but I do think he has struggled recently

A fair few mistakes? He made 0 errors leading to goals in La Liga for the 20/21 season... 4 in his entire career at Madrid

So have Madrid. The team, collectively, has underperformed.

The Real Madrid fans I know say he's world class if he stays. Overrated and in decline if he goes. They have never seen him play. I have never met a Real Madrid fan.

Could be using us to get a better contract. Ramos did the same.

Varane, Sancho and Bruno for around £160m combined looks pretty good business for big signings recently.

Then stats are nonsense. You can make numerous mistakes that don’t lead to goals. Doesn’t then mean you had a good game. I am only going by what I have watched of him both in la liga and CL and Euros where he has been fairly poor. Doesn’t mean he can’t be very good for us. Untwist them knickers lad

Any Madrid player we are ever linked with will have this said about them now. As soon as people have correlation to link to an outcome then they will do it.

"The last player we signed from X didn't work out, so I'm concerned about this one"

Completely ignore the fact they are totally different players, leaving a totally different team x to the modern day one and joining a very different United team, play a totally different position and aren't similar players. But yeah, the fact they both come from the same club must mean that the likelyhood of their transfer being deemed a success is intertwined and one will impact the other.

Because Ramos ended up signing a new contract with Madrid, everyone we're ever linked with will be questioned about doing the same. We're funny like that. Not even any evidence Ramos "used" United. I see it as perfectly plausible that he legitimately didn't feel they were offering him a deal he was happy with and was prepared to go elsewhere. They caved and upped the offer, so he decided to stay. That's exactly what happened this time round, only Madrid didn't budge. If they had, PSG fans may well be saying he just used them, but that's not exactly accurate. It just makes good gossip.

Difficult to argue against that first point

I join the negative band wagon too. I feel the only reason he is seen as good is because he plays for Madrid. Never been impressed by him every time I've seen him. Hope he is better for us. Benching lindelof would make him worth it. Ole has massive blinkers when it comes to him

Few have mentioned but I’m not as giddy as some on this one.

Fee seems big for someone in their last year of contract who is 28. Word from Spain is that he is in decline and has been for a while - I certainly wasn’t impressed by his performances at the euros. Injury record also suspect.

Don’t be under any illusion, if Madrid thought he was worth the money, he’d have a new contract there in a heartbeat.

Lots of people talking about his decline in very vague terms. I'm not saying he hasn't declined because I haven't watched him enough. But I get the impression that this has become a bit of a truism that a lot of people are parroting based on the same amount of information I have. Where's the statistical evidence of this decline? Or at least what are the attributes of his game that have declined?

As for Madrid and contracts, are you aware of the financially desperate situation Madrid (and Barcelona) is in? Heard about the salary cap issue?

On top of the financial situation, they had actually offered him a new contract, but they desperately need the money.

He hasn't declined in any way, it's more hear-say than anything. I think we need a RM fan to confirm, where's itsonlyagame when you need him

Would be good to hear off a Madrid fan - like I said, he had a poor euros in my opinion. Had a shocker against Switzerland.

Fully aware of the financial situation for the Spanish clubs (and enjoying it thoroughly). Let’s be real though, if Real Madrid really wanted to retain him rather than cash in, they would do so.

I don't watch enough of him to be a judge of whether he's declined or not.

What I'm more concerned about is how he compliments Maguire (and Lindelof to an extent).

If he still has some pace and is good in the air then it's an obvious upgrade IMO. Any 'decline' may also be down to Madrid's decline as a whole. Their midfield isn't getting any younger so maybe that puts a bit more pressure on their defence? I don't know.

As for concerns about his injury record his last three La Liga seasons have seen him playing 32, 32 and 31 games (the best run of his career) so it's not like he's getting worse in terms of being available (I've not checked to see if he missed games because of suspensions/rested/dropped).

I asked peks a few weeks back and he said he'd been quite poor over the last couple of seasons, making quite a few mistakes.
