If he doesn't act up, he'll never get his move. What would you do?

-------

but going on strike achieves nothing... you think levy is on the phone to pep now saying ahhh harry didnt come in today, we will now accept 50m less than we would have yesterday?

all he is doing is pissssing off the fans / coming across as a caaant.

Really he should've handed in a transfer request, but of course the loyalty bonuses....

These kinds of shenanigans are surprisingly common in the game. Footballers agitating for a move do all sorts, and there are almost certainly players in your squad who got there by pulling similar stunts.

The reality is that football is one of the only situations where you can't easily quit your job to go work elsewhere. There are understandable reasons for that, but there is therefore a duty to facilitate deals when a player wants to leave. It's an issue of personal freedom.

As much as you love Levy for being a tough negotiator, even if you don't love him for all the rest, it creates these situations to a much, much greater extent. The fees being demanded for Kane in a Covid world are intentionally unrealistic. The man shouldn't have signed a six year deal, but that speaks more to his love of your club clouding his judgement than anything else.

If he doesn't act up, he'll never get his move. What would you do?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Be professional

Is a couple of trophies worth destroying a lifetime legacy at a club. He would go down as a legend in history at Spurs

If he engineers a move he will be vilified

He didn’t mind the big fat pay rise when he signed the contract

I understand his situation but I have zero sympathy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the time of signing that new contract he could have gone to most clubs in the world for more money.

He's said he wants to leave, he's just trying to make it happen. I've never had a boss just give me anything, in the workplace everything I have has always been what I have been able to leverage and what I have stood my ground upon.

Tell me, how much notice do you have to give in your job. Is it less than three years?

it certainly could help him push a move through if he burns some bridges at Spurs, it could work the other way and make Spurs dig their heels in but it's a tactic that's been use lots of times before. Fans do get really precious over this kind of thing, nobody complains when players go on strike to force a move to join our clubs. For players it's a career and they're not looking at things in the same way as fans.

Also how grotesque football is. Manchester City are about to spend £250 million pounds on two players. Who can compete with that? What’s the actual point anymore?

I dunno how Kane expected this to end another way after signing that six year extension?

And assuming the 'gentlemen's agreement' was true, if he genuinely believed Levy would take a financial hit to uphold it he's stupid quite frankly

posted on 2/8/21

I bet all this is a load o fuss about nothing, and it is soon reported that he was doing something perfectly explainable and will be in training tomorrow as expected.

He really doesn't strike me as someone who would go on strike. I find it very unlikely.

If he hasn't turned up for training, then just feck him off, then boo him when he returns in another teams shirt.

No player can ever be allowed to derail our club.

I would prefer him to stay, but if he is not committed to Spurs then he can feck off.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

Is it really that bad?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s disrespectful IMO. Grealish is training, Romero is training why shouldn’t Kane?

He’s likely still getting paid by us and should be doing his job
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not to go all A.I. on it all - but it’s just practice.

I’d care a lot more if this was a continual issue, or he missed a game or whatever. However it’s a bloke who has literally given his all to the club, sacrificed his body, brought us brilliant consistency and is coming back off another ‘nearly’ moment. I don’t mind him having a day off for whatever reason it may be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A day off? Literally just had a 3 week holiday.

He’s contracted to the club and as such should be doing what the club tell him.

It’s not like city have even got a bid on the table iirc

Also it’s not just practice it’s the start of getting a ready for the season and we know it takes Kane ages to get up to speed normally.

Really don’t understand his mind set to do it. Would it really been hard to turn up do the tests and go home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree 100 per cent.

He is laying down his marker and showing the club he is serious. If he turns up then it shows he is a walk over.

Put yourself in his shoes. He wants to win trophies. End of.

spurs is my boyhood club, there is no way I strike. if i want a move away then I do it in a way without mugging off my fellow fans. thats me talking as if i was the one in the saga

I don`t agree with you often Smeg, but you are right on the money with that comment.

Ridiculous to how a club can have so much more money than any other club, on what is supposed to be a relatively level playing field.

Like telling Lewis Hamilton he only has to complete one circuit to win a Grand Prix, whilst the rest of the field have to completely multiple circuits.

As I say, the more you put your price up, the more you risk losing the deal. As much as clubs wouldn't usually complain about keeping a player of Kane's ability at the club, why bother when he doesn't want to be there.

Take £100m, or push it to £120m and then reinvest. No point pushing City for more if they aren't willing to pay it, they are pretty shrewd operators themselves despite the money they have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting. From a rival club fans point of view, whatever you get out of city doesn't weaken their financial position one iota, but the more you get the more it strengthens Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well not really given that we’d be losing about 45 goal contributions a season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was assuming he leaves, it was just about the price

Kane obviously acting on some shoddy advice. A player of his calibre should have a proper agent and leave his brother to manage his Instagram account if the muggy cuunntt can’t get a job in the real world.

If he’s gonna go then so be it. He is a world class player and absolutely should be playing CL football. Bad decisions at Spurs that are out of his control have caused us to regress since the peak Poch years when he broke through. But it has to be done in the right way.

Levy has to hold City’s feet to the fire on this one, and he will. When Levy has the high ground he is a tyrant, and right now he has one of the most valuable assets in world football on offer.

For me though, we need to work this right. There has been talk that Laporte would consider a move and that City would be willing to use him as a makeweight. If we can get Romero, then I would take £125m plus Laporte for Kane. We’d then have the CB’s sorted with a huge budget for Paratici to rebuild the rest of the team, with plenty left over even if we got Vlahovic.

As for Kane - it would be such a shame for him to leave under a cloud after coming through the academy and being such a goal scoring phenomenon and fan favourite. But that’s the ugly world of modern football - cash doped plastic clubs hoovering up the best players who themselves (and their agents) have too much power, and Spurs themselves making the kind of inefficient decisions that put us in a position where we are prey to such clubs when not so long ago we were finishing above them. Shambles all round.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would only take the money Ace. City should have to cough up the whole £160 million being touted or just feck off. No player plus cash deals, so they can get Kane on the cheap, whilst getting rid of some of their deadwood. No thanks.

There's only city, PSG and Chelsea could do that, and Chelsea wouldn't. The other two can do whatever they want.
