One for the purists!!!

Quite proud of the Dundee sides this weekend managing to essentially tie with the Glasgow clubs in the head to heads. 3 points to the Glasgow sides and 3 points to the Dundee sides. The two cities seem pretty well matched in terms of football sides so it should be an exciting season.

Well played United. Great result for you.

Rangers didnt play well but still had almost 70% possession.

Counts for very little when we only had 2 shots on target the whole game.

United defended for their lives and had a massive slice of luck with the goal which turned out to be the critical moment of the game.

Not the worst time for a boot in the maw haws for Rangers but I would obviously have preferred a win!

it was indeed one for the purists

I don't think there will be too much between the two sides from the city this season to be honest. The derbies should be tight games. I do wonder if Dundee have the legs in midfield for the top flight though.

You've got to feel sorry for Dundee though. According to Gerrard they played twice in two days.

Large Charles bossed the lacklustre Rangers attack.

*I didn't watch the game, just making the assumption.

Mulgrew was very good but I thought Edwards stood out more. Every ball in the box was met by his handsome Scouse head.

It was a proper team performance which is what you need in these games.

Yeah top 6 looks like a bit of a mission this season. You have Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs looking like shoe ins, with St Johnstone inevitably making it. That leaves just one spot available in the top six for Dundee, Dundee United and Rangers to fight it out for. There should be some epic encounters between the 3 this season in the quest for top 6, as we already saw at the weekend.

I fancy Dundee and possibly their city rivals Dundee to make the top six this season.

Thought Utd (just want to distinguish between Dundee and Dundee Utd) played really well. Limited rangers' chances and played some good football when they had the ball as well. Bit of fortune for your goal, but sometimes you make your own luck.

I've no idea your manager's background, but that's not a bad result to get so early in your career.

Only seen 1st 20 mins of the second half and the highlights on Sportscene and it looked like Fuchs stood out

POV

He doesn't have much of a background. He was the manager of Kelty a few years ago and has been a coach in the academy for the last few years. There's been a lot of animosity from sections of the United support to his appointment and he very much needed a few results.

Ghod - I rate Fuchs very highly. A very, very good player.

Perfectly summed up, Ivan. It looked like the team went out with an actual game plan, and they seemed to understand how to implement it! The system was spot on. It was interesting to hear Courts after the match talking about trying to get the crowd fired up and on side early in the match - Pawlett getting fouled within the first couple of minutes and us winning a couple of corners from that seemed to ramp up the volume in the ground, you could see the players feeding off that.

As has been said, Mulgrew and particularly Edwards were rock solid, but really there wasn’t a weak performance anywhere in the team. Concerning to see Chalmers limping off, and of course zero info from the club about what the story is there.

Hopefully this result will shut up the morons who shout about Courts just being a PE teacher with an iPad, and who use the clown emoji any time they’re making reference to him. The guy deserves a fair shot at it. Sadly we have a vocal element of “fans” who are all experts in football management… Anyway enough of that. I loved being back at Tannadice at the weekend, it was great to return with a win

how annoyed do you guys get at being called Dundee??

very disrespectful, can't imagine any young Scottish coaches going down to England and referring to United or City as Manchester

Read Mulgrew's comments about it as well and the importance of getting the crowd up from the start. Made a big difference.

Saturday was a taster with just under 5k in the ground. Can't wait for the derby with a full house.

I can forgive someone new to the Scottish game getting it wrong, and you'd like to think that someone would have had a word in his ear and corrected him.

But he's not that new to our game, he said it twice on Friday and then again post-match. It's massively disrespectful and he can fluck right off with that pash.

Also you wonder why the media guys don't correct him.

Truthfully I don’t get as annoyed as others seem to, to me it actually just makes him look like an idiot and I’m ok with that.

Dundee/Dundee United? What's the difference? I don't see an issue with Lampard getting them mixed up. It's not a big deal.

That's ridiculous.

We all know a PE teacher would have no clue how to use an ipad.

Deal for Shankland looks like it's done with the Belgian team. Worth up to £1m apparently.

This thread is a classic example of why no-one should ever buy, read or click on any red top rags. A good in depth ananysis of the game
As far as the bit of luck regarding the goal. Bollox. You make your own luck and the lad that scored took it very well. Will be interesting to see the next games of both sides.
