I'm cautiously optimistic we'll get something out of this, we just need to make sure we bring the kind of form and flair in to this game that we've shown in the previous three. If we slack off because its not a glamour game like we have too many times in recent seasons we'll get stuffed.

I've just realised how wrll we are doing so far - only 6 teams have conceded fewer goals

posted on 6/9/21

And only 1 team has conceded fewer legitimate goals

posted on 6/9/21

And absolutely nobody has scored fewer!!

This is a must win for me, defeat would be unthinkable.
The buck is at Fosun's door.

Not sure I am in the must win camp but it would be helpful that is for sure. 4 points from the next two would give up something to build on along with beating Spurs in the cup.

You say that Cinci but these are the teams we have to beat or at very least not lose to.
If we play as we have in the three previous games then it should be a victory for us. However we have to break our goals drought.

Good time to play us maybe too coming off an international break. Potentially no Jimenez as well. Havent seen much of Watford this season and dont know this coach of there's but they've always been tough opposition in recent games.

I think taking Jimenez out of the limelight for a while might do him good. He seems bogged down by the weight of expectation.

Give Fabio a chance to recreate his recent performance against Forest.

I am in the "4 points from the next 6" camp. These are the matches we really need to win this season, we could be in deep doo doo by the end of September if we don't start picking up points and rippling the ole onion bag again.

Daniel Sturridge scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Mallorca as the former England striker, 32, continues to search for a new club having been a free agent since leaving Trabzonspor in March 2020.
========================================

Always rated him and could have been a snitch as a free agent.

I wouldn't bet on him finding another club. Neither would his brother.

Moutinho starts and gets 78 mins in Portugal's 3-0 win. Neves on at half time and Semedo an unused sub.

Hwang gets another 90 mins in S. Korea's 1-0 win.

Read Tim Spiers interview with Jeff Shi earlier, some encouraging words about the future and how he is looking to develop the club as a business, but some equally naïve comments about the window which he describes as "good", and that "we are stronger than at the end of last season". A case could be made in that we appear to have better quality in some areas:

Jimenez > Jose,
Hwang > Cutrone (maybe),
Trincao > Otasowie (not a fair comparison but in purely quality terms maybe)

But that really is stretching a point to the limits of credibility.

The other surprising point was that the FFP restrictions were not a factor as they only applied up to the end of last season. My understanding had been that the UEFA sanction applied to seasons 19/20 (after we had qualified for the EL), 20/21 and 21/22. The article refers to the periods we were in breach for over spending but it only became an issue after we qualified for EUFA competition which was only two years ago. So presumably the sanction also applied to the season within which it was applied or the three seasons in which we were not incurring losses due to increased PL revenue.

And thirdly their was another contradictory statement around player recruitment, with Jeff saying they were interested in signing "top players" but the market being tough for such players. Fair enough, but he then says that they were looking to add to the squad right up the end of the window but the targets they were looking at were not "ideal targets" because the so called ideal targets had already moved or had signed (new deals presumably). So they must have been looking at squad fillers not just "top players". And they failed to bag either.

Does strike me that JS needs more help on the player recruitment side of things, he spoke last time in the club propaganda videos about not getting the balance right and needing to address that, another window has gone now where they haven't done so.

Jeff is turning into a bigger con artist than Keyser Soze.

More smoke and mirrors, and yet another zero net spend window. The business strategy over the last 2 years has been abysmal and it's starting to reveal itself on the pitch now.

good for the Fosun balance sheet, net spend in another trannie window whilst cashing how much in premier league and TV payments

As he's driving an F1 car I don't suppose you much choice other than following him.

Saw someone post this bit

'We could easily have bought four or five players, but Bruno had the say on who he did or didn’t want'

Funny how he finds a way to shift blame.
