There are no hard and fast rules here and I know I'll have messed up in the OP by forgetting someone obvious.
Defence looks a bit weak, otherwise decent team. Top half of the table, but not sure they would have enough to challenge for a top 4 place. Certainly no title winning team.

I though the defence was the weakest part too. I think they'd challenge for top 4 myself all things being equal but maybe not. Between the three XIs though I'm sure you could come up with three title chasing teams!

Maybe Parker deserves a place in the third team. And I def think Shaw should have a place in there.
I like most of your third team - McClair could go in there - fabulous underrated player. You put in Rashford but Van Persie and Yorke miles ahead.
Also, Robson in there, so if we are not talking just premier league, you have the older players like Best and Charlton, Wilkins, Law

Robson won two PL titles therefore thought he deserved to be in. I've put Rashford in as he's more of a wide forward than Yorke and RVP who did contribute more of course.
Maybe room for v persie instead of Hughes. I know there’s a little bit of bias there

Hughes was my hero when I grew up so he has to be in there but, if you want more goals from CF, then RVP or Yorke goes in there. I just think though when Hughes played well United played well so, in my team at least, he stays in there!

Not quite done enough for me to get into this third team but it was close. It would really be the same problem as in our team now wouldn't it. Although Ince obviously much better than what we have in midfield now.

It would be interesting to do the worst Utd XI from the PL era. We’ve had been spoilt with some excellent players over the years, and we tend to forget the absolute flops we’ve had. Taibi as Gk for one. An article for another (rainy) day.
