It was not a red

Very unfortunate, feel for Harvey Elliott but this is a legitimate tackle and sadly he got hurt. Both feet leave the ground, it happens when you run. Cooper makes exactly the same challenge later…should he be sent off for dangerous play?

this is a legitimate tackle

It simply isn't. It is the very definition of serious foul play.

Well these were far worse on Ronaldo in the past and no red card was given.

This was also not given as a red card when far worse on Greenwood. That was the same season in reverse fixture Greenwood was lamped inside the box and no penalty was given in Southmapton away game so 4 points dropped due to poor refs. This season again 2 points dropped to Southamptob as refs think shoving Bruno out the way while kicking his legs is legal lol. It was the worst foul of the whole game and the goal stood.

Ronaldo doesn’t get anywhere near a player= red card while someone cleans him out= no red card.

Wonder if Harry kane will be sending his best wishes

Clearly tackling Elliot from behind, which is outlawed because of the risk of serious injury. You see defenders allowing runners to run if their run cuts across them, because a tackle is mostly a foul and a card most times. Red card because of damage caused this time.

Total freak accident. Cooper did exactly the same thing to Mane I think it was yet Mane was absolutely fine like 99% of players tackled like that.

Feel terrible for the young lad but it's a contact sport, and it was a physical game, 100 mph. A tough tackle but not a red, ref let the game flow.

Also OP, have you shared that image from your own google drive - Glenn/glenghis? Maybe a coincidence but if so you may want to remove for the sake of anonymity.

Noticed the same. DJ will love this.

It was a tackle from behind, both feet off the ground, and at pace.
His trailing foot wiped Elliott out.so clearly 2 footed.

I can see why it was given as a red but wouldn’t have thrown a tantrum if it wasn’t.

Two footed tackle in football, an illegal tackle in which a player jumps or slides forwards with both legs stretched towards an opposing player

It wasn’t a red. The ref allowed play to continue in Leeds favour and only blew up when Salah became hysterics, and only sent him off when he saw it was a bad injury. Moments later Cooper made an identical tackle on Mane which won the ball, I didn’t hear anyone calling for a red there. Tackles like that are made every game and don’t result in red cards
-----
Tackles like that aren't made evey game and if they are then the ref punishes them most times. Anyone got a clip of this other tackle on Mane? They keep saying it's similar but I reckon you'll find its nowhere near the same.

Definite red card. It was made from behind, so would definitely need to go through the player to get any of the ball.

Secondly was a lunge, it wasn’t as if he was standing while he made it, ie the full weight of Struijk and the forward momentum carried through the challenge. This is dangerous play.

This is why this kind of challenge should be outlawed, the player making that challenge is out of control as once airborne cannot pull out of the challenge or reduce its impact.

Look at Elliots ankle yes, but also see that Struijk is making it from behind. The fact that it can have a huge injury result from it means this kind of challenge is correctly viewed as a red card.

It wasn’t how Elliott landed either, it’s the full weight of Struijk on that ankle.
